Missing flight plans by
Paul kgyy
Twice in 2 days I've filed VFR flight plans only to have FSS unable to
find them when I called on radio after takeoff. One was filed through
Duats at 9PM for noon next day (and left at noon). The other was filed
with a briefer at Terre Haute at 10PM for 8AM next day (and left on
time).
In both...

Color Me Annoyed by
Denny
Well, my 2007 annual condition inspection ends tomorrow... Yee Old
Crusty Mechanic has been increasingly hard to contact for the past two
months and now has disconnected his phone, his airplanes are gone, and
his hangar has been sold... I'm beginning to suspect that he does not
intend to do the...

M20 Air/Oil separator by
Jay Honeck
Atlas just got his oil/air separator installed today. (For those who may
not know, Atlas is our '74 Cherokee Pathfinder, so-named because he can lift
literally anything we can fit inside!)
We picked this new accessory up at OSH '04, after much debate. (It's a
helluva lot of money for what looks...

Depression after Washing by
Charles Talleyrand
My kid and I just washed the plane. Even after washing it, there are
still chips of paint missing, a bit of rust, a drip-stain of fuel, and
so on. The panel looks like it has been modified every once in a
while since 1966. My plane is relatively nice compared to the other
ones on the field, but...

buy or rent a 2006 182 by
Dan Luke
Since it looks very much like I will be sans airplane in a week or so, I've
been kicking around options for future flying.
My general bad feeling about owning an airplane in Mobile notwithstanding,
there's still a chance I could buy another airplane if renting a 2006 Cessna
182T from the local...

Va and turbulent air penetration speed. by
Doug
Kershner's "The Advanced Pilot's Flight Manual" has the following
definition for Va.
Va - The maneuvering speed. This is the maxiumu speed at a particular
weight at which the controls may be fully deflected without
overstressing the airplane.
Now, Va is commonly taught as turbulent air...

Fuel Prices and their Effect on Your Flying by
Jon Kraus
I did some checking around my area today (thanks www.100ll.com) about
what the fuel prices are, and was surprised to learn that my home base
(KTYQ) is charging $4.47 (the highest in the area), and that includes
our based-on-the-field discount. That is up around $1.00 from a little
over a year ago...

Well I've taken the new plane plunge and put a deposit down on a new SR22

Cold Starts by
Viperdoc
Is it worth lugging long extension cords to plug in the Tanis heaters for my
Baron if it's going to sit outside at 12 degrees for two to three hours
after a flight?
I have cowl plugs which may help a little, but is it really a problem? The
oil will be well circulated, and the battery is in good...

What's on YOUR Christmas list? by
Jay Honeck
Ho, ho, ho....!
Me, I'm asking Santa for a new, solid-state transponder -- which is about as
dull as socks & underwear, but the third digit on mine keeps going wacky
once in while. I *hate* it when ATC thinks I've set my squawk code
wrong...
What are you hoping to find in YOUR stocking on...

Cessna 182T w. G-1000 pirep by

OK, I know I said I would not get to fly this plane until tomorrow, but it
arrived early and so I took a flight. This is a new turbocharged Cessna
T182T.
For those that have not seen the 182T (either turbo or normal, introduced
last year), you might be a little startled the first time you take a...

GA paying fair (fare?) share by
Dude
Having seen the recent diatribes from airline executives, I feel like I
could just about throw up.
Don't these idiots realize that if it was not for their "all important"
fleets of precious cargo we could slash ATC by 90 plus percent?
Let's see how well they can compete with the charters if they...
