Engine Sizing and Selection by
Toks Desalu
I am in process of searching for an engine.....well two engines. I am
looking at approimately 100 to 120 horsepower engine each. I am sure that
most people would strongly recommend a reputed aircraft engines. However, I
do not want to limit myself to it. I wanted to see everything before I...

Engine sound of Rotax 912 by
JK
Here's a tough question, but I'll try anyway. Can anyone describe the sound
of a Rotax 912? I'm thinking of building a Zodiac XL, and have heard the
Zenith demo plane equipped with the Jabiru 3300, but I don't know if I have
ever heard the sound of a Rotax 912. Although sound may not be an...

Engine update, good and bad news by
nauga
The bad news: There was a welded repair on
the #2 cylinder, right next to the intake
valve. Looks like the stress around the repair
warped either the valve stem or the valve
guide. There was no scoring on the cylinder
walls and the rings were intact, and it was
apparent that oil was coming in...

Engine vibration with advanced ignition. by
abripl[_2_]
Been flying my canard for a few years now - it has a Franklin 6-350
engine and LSE dual ignition. I often noticed a slightly extra engine
vibs in the 2500-2700RPM range (maybe its my imagination) and I used
to fly it 2400rpm or less. All this time I had the ignition advanced
probably an extra 5...

Enlarging a bushing hole? by
Michael Horowitz
I find myself having to enlarge a bushing's ID by 1/16ths to 3/8ths.
My concern is I don't know how to insure the 3/8" bit is aligned with
the axis of the hole. Centered is good, but I'm more concerned with
the alignment.
Suggestions? - Mike

Epic LT on a Trailer by
Kyle Boatright
Anyone know why a painted Epic fuselage, seemingly with engine installed,
would be on a flatbed trailer traveling North on I-285 near Atlanta?
My guess is that this fuselage was a display unit or mock-up, because the
fuselage appeared complete and finished, minus the horizontal stab and wings...

Epic vs Kestrel by
Kyle Boatright
In today's ANN, one of the stories is about the Kestrel, a 6 place turboprop
which a British company hopes to certify.
Is this essentially the same aircraft as the Epic LT homebuilt, a 6 place
turboprop "kit" which has to be assembled onsite at the kit manufacturers
facility in the kit...

Epoxy Bonding to Aluminum and Magnesium by
Ryan Young
I'm working on a Hummel Aviation Ultracruiser Plus. The way the
engine mounts is quite different from the mounts on most VW powered
homebuilts. The Conventional Wisdom bolts the thing to the firewall
using the clucth end bellhousing, often with an accessory case in
between.
The Ultracruiser Plus...

Epoxy for Fuel Tanks by

Which Epoxys have folks had success using for their fuel tanks? I know that
they don't sell true safety-poxy anymore, has anything taken its place?
This is for auxillary tanks that will only ever have avgas in them . I have
used vinyl-ester for other fuel tank projects but was wondering what in...

Epoxy is really crap for homebuilding by
Sliker
Lately I've had to use the stuff to work with some pre-made parts that
were made from epoxy. Aeropoxy. Stinky!
Epoxy is more viscose, so it doesn't wet out the cloth as well. It is
more toxic, especially some of the older formulas. And smells
horrible. And why did so many homebuilders get stuck...
