Boomers In Large Deep Lakes? by
jkochko68
I have always wondered that if the the U.S. and Russia were really
serious about MAD why were boomers ever deployed to the opean seas?
Think about it. The Great Lakes are very large and deep, some over
1,000 feet deep. There is no reasonable way I can think of to attack a
boomber once out on a...

Attack Squadron 304 NAS Alameda Items by
jocko
Hi Sports Fans!
I've pretty much exhausted the web and eBay for items relating to
VA-304. I'm wondering if anyone has a VA-304 Patch that has a sideview
of an A-7 Corsair II superimposed on it?
I'm also looking for any printed material: Booklets, Programs, Plan-of-
the-Day's, etc. Anything that...

Navy Squadron VA-93 "Blue Boozers" officially "Blue Blazers" by
jocko
Hi Sports Fans!
I'm looking for someone who might know why the A-4C Skyhawk Squadron
VA-93 "Blue Blazers" was also known by the nickname "Blue Boozers", at
least on the 1966 Westpac/Vietnam Cruise on the "Big E."
The implications are obvious. But, I want to know the back story. Was
there a...

Iranian Missiles And Torpedos by
Joe Delphi
Looks like Iran is testing more missiles and torpedos:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/04/05/iran.missile.ap/index.html
Excerpt: "Iran said the torpedo tests were conducted Sunday and Monday. The
torpedo -- called a "Hoot," or "whale" -- is able to move at 223 mph, too
fast for any enemy...

BRAC 2005 List by
Joe Delphi
I heard on the radio that the BRAC 2005 list was going to be released
sometime this week. Anyone got a link?
Rumor has it that Los Angeles Air Force Base (Station?) is on the list. It
is mainly a contract administration office, no aircraft located there.
Haven't heard anything about Naval bases...

"Lost Nuke" on National Geographic Channel by
Joe Osman
I'm watching a program "Lost Nuke" on the National Geographic Channel
right now (9pm eastern US time). It's about the first lost USAF nuke
from a B-36 in British Columbia in the 1950's. It's also on at
midnight tonight Tuesday Feb 24. It's very interesting so far.

The Red Baron Reports: What They Really Said by
Joe Osman
In the Fall Air Power History magazine, which you Air Force types
can get from your unit historian, William Sayers wrote an article "The
Red Baron Reports: What They Really Said".
He looks at the now unclassified USAF Red Baron reports and tries
to explain the disparity between USAF and USN/USMC...

737 MMA by
joelpac
Question for the naval aviators: How is the new 737 MMA going to perform as the
P-3s replacement? I know it's bigger, carries more "stuff" and whatnot, but
from what I know of jet engines (even high-bypass fans), won't it be very fuel
INefficient in the same regime as the P-3 prowls? Cruising...

Wildcats to Tomcats: The Tailhook Navy (Tailhook Navy Series) by
John
Howdy all. I found a copy of Wildcats to Tomcats: The Tailhook Navy
(Tailhook Navy Series) editted by Barrett Tillman. It seems to be oral
histories by three naval aviators - Wally Shirra, Zeke Cormier, and
Phil Wood.
Has anyone read it and have any comments about the book itself?
Thanks in...

HSL on deployment by
John
My son is soon to complete FRS flying the SH-60B, just wondering what
the future holds when he deploys. Presumably on a cruiser or destroyer.
How do the aviators 'fit' in the ship's responsibilities, typical (if
there is such a thing) deployment lengths, do they get attached to the
same ship all...

There are several resources that you can use, but don't expect a response
here in the newsgroup to answer all your questions or to provide you with a
complete, ready-made script. The earlier mention of the Museum as a source
is excellent. I commanded several ships and the Boatswains Mate of...
