Installing instruments and avionics in small aircraft by
Mxsmanic
What's the procedure for installing instruments and avionics in small
aircraft?
For example, if you want to install, say, a stereo in your car, it's no big
deal. Lots of stereos seem to be pretty standardized, you just get what you
want and connect a few wires and stuff and its in. How modular...

Accident Prone Pilots by
Marco Leon
Interesting article on Aviation Week's website.
http://www.aviationnow.com/avnow/news/channel_busav_story.jsp?id=news/accid0906.xml
I've always maintained that GA's accident record could be significantly
improved if there was an effective "wash-out" process that removed the
"sludge" at the bottom...

Lidle crash: who is wrong? by
Blasto
Confusing reports on the Lidle crash-- Mayor Bloomberg, sounding
utterly confident in his sources, says the plane took off from
Teterboro, circled the Statue of Liberty, flew up (south-to-north) the
East River, then into the building. A few minutes earlier, a CNN
reporter using PASSUR asserted that...

Mxs wins. by

Well, I'm going to take a break from this group for a while. The signal to
noise level is so high, and the volume of junk so large, it takes too much time
and annoys me.
I'm tired of being called a netcop, among other things, and since all of you

My first solo - and the worst flight of my life by
Monarch Student
I left this morning for my first supervised solo. My flight
instructor is a new guy, about 25 who's never taught students before a
month ago. But he seems to know his stuff, so I've put up with him
for this long.
Until today.
We take off from Addison to McKinney TX airport, arrive at...

Flying to Texas...recommendations? by
Jay Honeck
We're hoping to depart for Fredericksburg, Texas (T82) next Sunday, to
pay a visit to the Hangar Hotel -- the only other aviation themed
hotel in the country (that we know of).
Fredericksburg itself sounds very neat, and we'll spend a day or two
there, but the kids want WARM weather -- and so do...

req: CFI job advice by
Gattman[_2_]
Hey, all. I'm looking for a bit of wisdom here. Background is, I'm a
system administrator whose job just dissolved in a corporate buyout and,
after being promised that if I came over I'd keep my salary and title, I was
sleazed into a 30% paycut (given a single day to either sign it or hit the...

Would you fly on this airline? by
Jay Honeck
KATHMANDU (Reuters) - Officials at Nepal's state-run airline have
sacrificed two goats to appease Akash Bhairab, the Hindu sky god,
following technical problems with one of its Boeing 757 aircraft, the
carrier said Tuesday.
I wonder what the Boeing service manual says about this?

Boeing admits 787 strategy flawed by

"Now that Boeing has conceded that the first flight and

that their strategy of relying on far-flung major
subcontractors to design and produce most major components

It was the 3rd leg of an Angel Flight and I wasn't even supposed to be
flying it. I'd already flown the second leg from Natchez, MS to
Monroeville, AL, but the 3rd leg pilot had mysteriously failed to show--no
call, no nothin'. It was late, I was tired and I was mad. I had two pax

Public Aerobatics - a Disaster waiting to happen... by

I have long expressed my opinion that public displays of low level
aerobatics entails risk vastly out of proportion to any benefits,
perceived or real... Aerobatic displays do not improve public support
for general aviation nor for the preservation of local airports...

New Orleans Lakefront Airport by

CNN video: NEW looks bad; partially under water. Heavy damage to most
buildings, particularly the large Millionaire FBO west of 18/36.
Wonder how long it will be before we make the $100 muffaletta trip to
Lakefront again--if indeed we ever do?

Do you ever use standby on your transponder? by
Maule Driver
I don't. It stays on 24/7 (you know what I mean). 1200 unless given a
code. It effectively prevents "Maule, check your transponder" unless
using the wrong code.
I make no attempt to turn it off or go to standby while taxiing or
anything else. I've never been asked to go to standby or...

Questions pondered at 6500 feet by
Jay Honeck
We enjoyed a 45 knot tailwind all the way to our favorite fly-in restaurant
today (The CAVU Cafe, in Janesville, WI ).
This blessing naturally switched to a 45 knot curse on the way home.
Droning along has its advantages. The headwind gave my kids ample time for
a nap, and gave Mary and me...
