Logging x/c time and definition of landing by Koopas Ly
Howdy, I was reading a short article on AOPA regarding logging x/c time. By definition, cross-country time includes any flight with a landing at any airport other than the departure airport; there is no distance requirement. Reference: FAR 61.1(b)(3) Of course, the catch is that:

Legal question - Pilot liability and possible involvement with a crime by John
I write this question solely from an aviation point of view, and don't wish to start any thread or discussion regarding the principal or newsmaker involved. What would happen if Michael Jackson wanted to flee the country in his corporate jet? - specifically, would his corporate aviation...

A Random Comment by birdog[_2_]
Just got around to reviewing all the comments under "Simulators". I guess it was inevitable that it ended up as disagreements with MX. While I don't want to get involved with that dead end, I have had an experience that kind of parallels. As I mentioned before, after I lost my medical, I tried...

C-17s as water bombers by Ross Oliver
The "DC-10 as water bomber" thread reminded me of an article I read recently, and I was able to dig it up. The following article appeared in the August 2003 issue of Boeing Frontiers, the internal Boeing company magazine: Water bombs Boeing invention could make C-17 a firefighter

Sectional Chart Question by Teranews
A pilot recently asked me a question, that I cannot find the answer to. On a sectional chart, around cities, are yellow areas. What are they? Where on the legend can this be found? My answer was "congested areas of a city or town" which I though sounded official enough to work. Ah-Ha, he says,...

Is it colder at the approach end of the runway? by Chris W
My dad drives along the south side of OKC to work every day and his OAT in his car always goes a few degrees colder around the where the extended centerline for the runways would intersect the road. Then it goes right back up after he is through that area. He thinks this is because the...

Airliner crew flies 150 miles past airport by Richard[_11_]
Been a busy day today. Wonder what a heated airline policy discussion looks like that could end up missing calls from ATC and spend 150 miles off course...? Perhaps they were really just busy texting.... http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/10/22/airliner.fly.by/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

Allergies and flying... by Jay Honeck
On Sunday we spent all day outside, getting the pool ready at the inn. It is shaded by giant river birch trees, which -- at this time of year -- are shedding lots of little flakes of pollen (?). I'm apparently violently allergic to this tree pollen. My eyes swelled shut, and stayed that way for...
