Watched the shuttle land today. by
Roy Smith
I watched the whole thing (from about 1/2 hour out) on the NASA video feed
(http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/index.html). It is really
is amazing how all this stuff works.
One amazing thing about the final approach is how steep it is. I've always
known it was steep (the NASA web...

Possibility of a collision with UAV? by
Chris Wells
With an ever-increasing number of unmanned aerial vehicles aloft, it seems likely that a collision is inevitable, at least until machine vision and avoidance systems are perfected...has it already happened? Are there any near misses on record?

Solar Powered Hour Meter by
wayne
I am thinking about importing some little meters as I think they would be
very valuable to the aviation community as a whole. I am trying to gain a
little insight, before I make a large purchase of these meters, whether
you guys and gals see a benefit and would be interested in purchasing one
for...

"From the Earth to the Moon" DVD set by
Bob Fry
Maybe this is old stuff for most on this newsgroup, but I just
discovered this.
I rarely if ever hawk a particular product on Usenet, but this older
DVD set (1998) is fantastic. My brother-in-law gave it to me for
Christmas....thinking it was some boring collection of fuzzy
black-and-white 1960s...

Flooded airport in Oregon by
Bob Fry
The local (Sacramento, CA) tv news just showed a short video of a very
flooded airport in Oregon with a couple of dozen GA planes flooded
about 3 feet and probably ruined. Didn't say where though, does
anybody know?

1967 Lightning strike crash? by
Chris Wells
I'm reading some articles on aircraft lightning strikes, and most mention an incident in 1967 when an airplane was brought down by lightning; however I can't find info on this crash. Can anyone tell me when & where this happened?

VLA outside U.S.? by
virtuPIC
I presume you mean "LSA," since there's no US "VLA" certification category.
ummm - sorry about the confusion, you are right. I meant LSA (Light
Sport Aircraft). Seems that I am dreaming of a VLJ or so... ;-)
I think as long as it is N-numbered, reciprocity agreements will allow it to be

L-19 Birddog Avionics Parts - For Sale? by
ContestID67
I am a member of a glider club that uses an L-19 Birddog for our tow
plane. The airplane makes a great towplane and by removing the rear
stick and turning the rear seat around, you can face backwards for the
flight which is a real hoot.
The airplane came to us after military use and had a full...

NX 51800 by
Jeffrey DeWitt
I've found an old photograph that my Grandfather took of what I believe
to be a Lockheed Electra, registration number NX 51800.
The photo is probably from the late 30's or early 40's and has about 6
men standing in front of the plane.
Is there any chance of finding out anything about that plane...

falling ice from airplanes? by
Big Crunch
This article discusses recent cases of "megahail" falling from the sky
since 2000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megacryometeors
Is there anyway 10 to 400 pound ice chuncks could form on a jet
airplane and fall? Is it possible with a deicing system.

Does anyone have any information, other than what's posted on news
websites, about the fatal crash of an experimental aircraft in Irdell
