Some good news to my old friends here at rec.aviation by
Jay Honeck[_2_]
I'm not sure if there are any folks left here from "the Golden Age of
Rec.Aviation", but -- just in case -- I would like to share some great news
with y'all.
For those who don't know, back in 2002 members of this group were
instrumental with helping Mary and me decide to make the leap into an...

First flight in our "new" Ercoupe... by
Jay Honeck[_2_]
A few months ago a group of us "pilots with kids" realized that our
pilot-rated children could no longer afford to fly even the clapped-out
rental 150s at our local FBO. Over a few beers, we started plotting a way to
help.
All of us were already aircraft owners -- but we all owned...

GPSMAP 195 or 196 by
Jay Masino
Mike Spera wrote:
but the current Apollo is vertical and does get in the way of the panel.
The 195 looks even taller than the Apollo, so it may not be so good. I
have a Cherokee 140 with bowtie yokes. Any good/bad reports in yoke
mounting either unit?
I have a 195...

FS: several Piper parts (long) by
Jay Masino
I'm selling off some of my "stock" of spare parts that don't fit my
Cherokee. I inherited most of them from an airport "old timer" years ago,
and they've been sitting around ever since. I thought I'd give some of
the newsgroup people a chance to make an offer before I Ebay them. I'll...

FS: AvMap EKP-IV GPS by
Jay Masino
For Sale
AvMap EKP-IV GPS. Only used a few times. Works great. I bought it for
$1399, will sell for $1300, plus UPS ground shipping/insurance. I'll
include the 6 rechargable AA batteries that I bought for it (which are not
included with the GPS from the factory). Payment can be made by...

Repaving evicts us from our hangar? by
Jay Masino
I was curious if anyone else has experienced this... Our airport is
having it's ramp area re-paved. Because of scheduling, they're starting
earlier than expected. 4 buildings of T-hangars have to be out by this
Monday (the 21st). Actually, you have a choice of being tiedown outside
for 2...

Buying an LSA: Zodiac XLi vs. Tecnam Sierra by
Jay Maynard
Since I'm now convinced I can fly the Zodiac given sufficient time and
practice, I can now make a decision as to which aircraft I want to purchase.
I haven't flown the Sierra. I did fly a Bravo last week, and the comments
I've gotten lead me to believe that the Sierra flies just about the same.
I'm...

I get to wait another week by
Jay Maynard
Well, I get to wait another week for my airplane. It's going in the paint
shop this Friday, and will be finished and tested next week. Yeah, I know
I've waited two and a half months already, and another week isn't that big a
deal...but I'm *really* getting antsy.

Jay Maynard
I put the deposit down on my Zodiac XLi today, so it's officially been
ordered. Now I get to finalize the paint and interior designs, and wait for
delivery on or about June 2. Whee.

Nervous about Rotax by
Jay Maynard
I spent a day and a half at Sebring looking at aircraft. As I expected,
there are only a few that fit what I'm looking for. Of those, only one (the
AMD Zodiac XLi) uses a Continental engine. Everyone else (and, indeed,
nearly everyone else building an LSA period) uses Rotax 912s.
I'm not fond of...

Ham radio in aircraft by
Jay Maynard
As my .signature attests, I'm also a ham radio operator. I'd like to be able
to use a 2 meter/440 MHz dual-band radio in the aircraft. While, ideally,
that radio would be an Icom IC-2820H, like the one in my car, practically
speaking it'll be a handheld. An external antenna would seem to be a...

Thinking about buying a Zodiac XLi by
Jay Maynard
After years away from it, I'm in a position where I can think about getting
an airplane. I want to be able to travel with it, not just fly around the
patch. I'm a PP-ASEL with about 170 hours in 172/Warrior/Tiger-class
aircraft. I'd love to build, but my work has me away from home constantly,
so...

KX 170B Replacement by
Jay Somerset
My two KX 170B NavComs are getting a bit tired. The tuning gears have been
replaced, and after several years are now getting really stiff and hard to
turn again. Apart from the mechanical parts, the radios both work just
fine.
I am looking at three alternatives; having them repaired again,...

Good Avionincs Shop in Maryland/Northern Virginia Area ?? by
Jay Somerset
Does anybody know a good, reliable (and not atrociously expensive) avionics
shop in the Maryland/Northern Virginia area? I'm based at GAI, but
Aerotronics has been effectively out of business for months -- not
officially, but no one is ever home. :-(
I used to go the a shop at College Park, but...
