Pitot heat by
Paul Mennen
Just saw in this month's AOPA (Fall flights):
"Most pilots slumming around the pattern on a hot summer day
will probably not flip the pitot heat on, but certainly anytime
you're flying in or near moisture - at any air temperature - It's
safest to use pitot heat." - Editor in Chief, Thomas B....

Pitot Heat by
Roger Long
Did I miss this in my training?
I thought Pitot Heat was only needed in icing conditions. Tom Haines column
in this months AOPA mag recommends turning it on in or near moisture at any
temperature. Is this a typical recommendation?
Is there an effect like a carburetor that could cause ice to...

Violating Airspace with GPS by
John Bell
It appears that a lot of pilots are violating airspace even with GPS on
board.
I would like to hear some feedback as to how pilots are violating airspace
with GPS. I address this in my online book, www.cockpitgps.com. I have my
hypothesis, but I would like to hear your experience or scenarios...

I recently got my PPL and went for my first x-country with my wife.
I trained at an uncontrolled field and going to a controlled field always
was a little more challenging for me. Anyway all went well on our trip to
the class-D airport. We got the courtesy car, went to have the $100
hamburger..all...

Boeing to cease 757 production by
Capt. Doug
There was a one paragraph blurb in the business section this morning that
Boeing will shutdown the 757 production line late next year. Is the
Dreamliner to be the replacement in the product line? I didn't think the
Dreamliner would be certified that soon.

Last weeks solar flare was a non-event except for "a few aircraft navigation

earth Wednesday or Thursday is believed by astronomers to be possibly the
largest since the invention of the integrated circuit.
Time to dig out...

Fed EX and Joint Reserve Base by
Chuck
It seems that every Saturday morning around 9-10 AM I see a FedEx plane
flying over Benbrook, TX at what I'm guess to be between 3,000 to 5,000 ft.
He looks like he is a little off to be going to the Joint Reserve Base
(Carswell), but that's the only thing I can figure that he is going.
I...
