Soaring in Mexico? by
John Shelton
There used to be. There are plenty of agplanes, lots of lift, a zillion
duster strips, friendly people and the most important elements: great beer
and tacos.
So, does anyone know anyone to contact about it? They are real sticklers for
gringos filing flight plans.

Currently, the El Paso Soaring Society operates from West Texas Airport,

and we are starting to consider new homes. One of the options is to operate
south of the Rio Grande. The Chihuahuan desert and surrounding...

Can I find somebody to work on a 400/6 Ball Vario or find a good old audio
variometer that would look right in the cockpit of my Bowlus Super albatross? I
have a 400/6 that works OK, but the audio doesn't work. Any help would be
appreciated. Also got a RICO audio only unit that doesn't work, anyone...

Bloody 'ell, Shawn, a great post. I'm a long time
fan of Gilbert & Sullivan parodies. From one of my

To the tune of 'When I Was a Lad...'; there's a pretty
active Gilbert & Sullivan parody site somewhere out
there....Got the CD somewhere near.

Checklists save lives and money by

Also IMHO if one is interrupted in a checklist, they
must start from the begining again.

Bill Daniels
OK, it's cold outside in Earth's northern hemisphere and here's something
topical.

What do you think the soaring possibilities would be on a terraformed Mars
with an atmosphere as dense as Earth's?
For one thing, your compass wouldn't...

Effect of airbrake blade height on glide slope by
Mike
I've seen some airbrake blades that extend considerably over the top
of the wing and others that stop with their bottoms just flush with
the wing surface. I was wondering if any one out there has an idea of
at what point of airbrake blade height extention do they cease to have
effect on degrading...

String in the middle does not protect you from a spin by
Jim
I think the recent threads on spinning have been wonderful. I find
them a great help to focusing on such an important issue.
Somewhere in my dark student-pilot experiences I was shown that
coordinated flight, with the yaw string kept carefully in the middle,
does not guarantee against spin entry....
