Osh flight line radios... by pho
I picked up one of these cool radios, but it didn't work well in Camp Scholler. It worked ok on the flight line though. Does anyone know what frequency these things work on? I expect it must be UHF. I haven't heard anything on mine since I got home. Pete

Mini-500 helicopter Mast Support Program. by Dennis Fetters
This is a news announcement for Mini-500 owners. It is not meant to be a tread for personal comments or attacks. It is to help people. As you may know, Revolution Helicopter manufactured the Mini-500 from 1990 to 2000, and then closed their doors forever, putting to rest the best kit built...

Double Eagle + orphaned engine = a winner? by Anthony W
After Bob Hoover's recommendation of the double eagle, I fond myself at the DE website and thinking I've found my first (maybe only) plane. I already have a stock 1600cc bug engine to use that is ready to put together other than a few bits but I'd like to try Bob's suggestions and go with the...

World's Best Tracing Paper! by [email protected]
Found at the doctor's office. An enormous roll of the stuff, used to cover the examination table. About two feet wide and hell for long. Asked nice, the girl gave me about six feet of the stuff. -R.S.Hoover

The Last Airplane by [email protected]
Recent problems mentioned here brought me a lot of mail on a variety of topics. Within the sphere of Flying on the Cheap and low-cost methods of construction, someone asked if I'd ever considered some kind of Last Ditch airplane, an absolute minimum flying machine for people who are determined to...

Master cylinders by [email protected]
I have some Gerdes master cylinders that were given to me years ago which I am just now planning on using. Don't know much about them, but was wondering if it wouldn't be prudent to have them be rebuilt ( overhauled ) before I use them, since they've been on the shelf for so long. Is it actually...

Aerodynamic...but not aircraft by Andy Asberry[_2_]
3/4 ton extended cab pickup towing a 24 foot travel trailer. Fuel mileage is effected much more by wind than weight. I want to build a camper shell that will be cab high at the front and direct the airflow smoothly over the trailer. There is about 4 feet between the front of the trailer and the...

Computer help (Got) by [email protected]
To All: About a week ago I posted an appeal for help with my computer sys, damaged during a recent stay in hospital. I've been using a lap-top as the controller. The keyboard was physically damaged (key broken off) and start-up wasn't starting up. Since all of the addresses were in the lap-top,...

Ratcheting tie-downs vs come-alongs? by Michael Horowitz
I'm trying to use a ratcheting tie-down as a comealong to move an aircompressor to a trailer. I'm finding that as the webbing builds up on the ratcheting barrel, it will eventually interfer with the prawling mechanism. This limits the distance the tie-down can pull to about 3 feet. Useless. I've...

Orphaned Engine by [email protected]
Most Experts Aren’t. That's something the late Smokey Yunick said back when I was a seaman deuce. Every month my mail delivers one or two messages saying it's still true. The messages usually come from some superbly experienced fellow who has literally spent his life working on cars or trucks. He...
