SPOT messenger by
[email protected]
Having followed the discussions here on the SPOT messenger
(findmespot.com) I just bought one -- andhope never to need it of
course. While far from perfect, it seems like a very good aid should
search and rescue be needed. A few observations:
I had thought I might use it in OK mode to report my...

Collins Pro Line vs Garmin G1000 by
Charles Talleyrand
I notice that the Citation CJ1s have Collins Pro Line and the Citation
Mustangs have Garmin 1000s. Does the Pro Line have any significant
advantages over the Garmin 1000? Which might be easier for the single
pilot to learn?

New season, new procedures by
Mark IV
“Warm up the engine at 1,000 to 1,200 rpm unless it’s necessary to
reduce rpm to keep from exceeding the oil pressure redline. As the oil
warms up, the rpm can be increased. Allow plenty of time for the
engine to warm up,” Steven W. Ells advised "
“The system, although simple, does have one major...

What are cowl flaps? by
Mxsmanic
What are cowl flaps for, and how are they used? The name implies that
they are some sort of aerodynamic control surface, but they don't
appear to have any aerodynamic effects. In simulation, they are doors
on the bottom of the engine nacelles that open for some unclear
purpose (I see what looks...

1942 DC-3 / C-47 on eBay by
Michael 182
For about 25% of the cost of a new Skylane or Cirrus you can have a 1942
C-47 that saw combat in WWII. Of course, the maintenance and fuel prices
might be a little steep - not to mention finding a hanger big enough to hold
the plane. Still, wouldn't it be cool to land at some out of the way...

Helicopter Question by
Jay Honeck
As we were flying over to Newton, IA today, we started discussing icing and
snow -- something that we must constantly worry about in these parts for at
least the next 4 months.
As we were talking, we heard a "Flight for Life" 'copter on Unicom, which
got us to wondering how it is that these guys...

Ignition switch, what happen when Left or Right is selected by
Martin B
Hello,
Here is my question:
On regular aircrafts, like C150, C172, PA28, when we perform the
magneto check where we select Left, than Right, while looking for RPM
drop... what is the switch doing?
When we select Left or Right, do we short that particular magneto or
are we shorting the other one?

IFR checkride in IMC: PASSED! by
gatt
When the weather is bad and the examiner gives you the option of delaying
for better weather, don't say "Well, if I can't pass my checkride in IMC I'm
probably not qualified for the IFR rating."
First attempt at the checkride. Icing forecast at 6,000. Examiner said
"No problem. We probably...

We can take pictures of objects on the Earth from space that
are 2 inch's wide. We can take pictures of objects on Mars
that are 12 inches wide. Why can't we find a wrecked
airplane in Nevada?? A place that is mostly dirt and sand
with very little vegetation?
Makes no sense

Airliner crew flies 150 miles past airport by
Richard[_11_]
Been a busy day today.
Wonder what a heated airline policy discussion looks like that could
end up missing calls from ATC and spend 150 miles off course...?
Perhaps they were really just busy texting....
