Matterhorn white aerosol spray can by sky
I'm replacing an inspection cover on my plane, the plane is painted with U.S Paint Awlgrip Matterhorn White. I have a small touch-up bottle of matterhorn white, but the inspection cover is too big to brush it and it would look bad. Does anyone know if matterhorn white or something very similar...

Newbie question on relationships between TT, TBO and SMOH by H.P.
If a plane (C172S) has 1600 TT but is at 250 hrs SMOH on an original engine that's spec'd for 2000hrs TBO, does this mean that the engine went in for overhaul prematurely? For what possible reason and how would I find out?

DA40-180 G1000 Alternator warning light mystery by Sweendawg
Little help from the list: I've had two shops look at my DA40 and no luck. Two weeks ago I flew pretty heavy IFR long x-c (Leesburg, VA to St Loius, MO) the plane sat on the ramp in the rain overnight one night. Next morning the "Alternator Failed- the battery is the only power source" red...

Cirrus Airframe Life Limits by Dave
I read a few posts referring to the FAA certificated life limit of the cirrus airframes and couldn't believe my eyes. So, i did some searching and here's what I found: SR20 (approved 10/23/98) - airframe life limit 12,000 hours SR22 (approved 11/30/00) - airframe life limit 4,350 hours It's...

Nicopress Swaging Tool - Availability by Gary T. Ciampa
All, This information may be well known but I felt compelled to pass it along. I've been searching for a Nicopress Swaging tool and choking on the prices at the typcial aircraft supply companies. Turns out that Lowes has a Campbell Nicipress tool, 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch for $24.95. The tool is...

Cessna Turbo 310 Riley Rocket by O. Sami Saydjari
Does anyone know anything about the "Riley Rocket" version of the Cessna Turbo 310? I am getting claims of "260 KTAS at 20,000 feet burning only 24 gph total." Does that make sense? Seems a little too good to be true. Does anyone have actual experience with a Riley Rocket that matches this...

"certified' parts by Jimmy B.
Yesterday, I attended a FAA safety seminar where the topic was maintenance issues. I walked away with a few surprising nuggets of information. These issues have been discussed here in the past and some of the information posited here disagreed with what the FAA said. So, I thought it would be...

A Piper Cherokee 140... good first plane? by Cecil Chapman
I'm beginning the process of looking for my own plane and have heard lots of advice. Most have advised against getting something like a Cherokee 140 and opt instead for something like a Cessna 172 or a Cherokee 180. Now, most 172 N's that I've flown have a 160 HP engine. It is my understanding...

Improve performance of Continental O-300-D?? by [email protected]
Hi folks - I just purchased a 1964 172e with a newly overhauled Continental O-300-D engine and was hoping to get some suggestions for improving performance on it. Is this feasible with this engine? I knew buying it that climb performance was quite a bit different than the 150HP Lycoming, but I...

Lightspeed Battery Box Warning by David Rind
Sydney Hoeltzli wrote: Lightspeed is sending replacement UPS red. But. This is a known (though infrequent) problem. Caveat Lightspeed User; don't leave your **** battery box lying on anything expensive or any plastic part of the plane it would be a PITA to replace. 'Cuz that puppy was...

Wanted clever PA32 engineer's thoughts - Gear extention problem on Piper Lance by [email protected]
Others may be able to give more knowledgeable advise, but I am somewhat familiar with the gear system on the PA28R, and I believe the system on the PA32R is similar. As I see it, you have expressed two problems. The first is that the gear won't extend reliably with the normal hydraulic activation...

Oshkosh 2005 pictures up by
Alright, I realize that Oshkosh is so very last week, but with my drive home to Southern California and going back to work it's taken me until now to weed through all 1992 pictures I took. I weeded them down to 539... obviously not all of them are interesting but at least they're broken up into...

Question
Throttle or Prop control first after takeoff by cyberflyrg
We are having a argument about what is better to do after takeoff. Some mechanics say pull power back first after takeoff and then adjust prop speed after, my mechanic says prop speed back first and then manifold pressure after that. What the "right" thing to do that will not damage the prop...

How to polish an aluminum prop by Nathan Young
I have an old Sensenich 74" propeller (I think from a 172) that was a hand-me-down gift from another pilot. The prop did not pass its inspection, and although it does not look it - the prop is no longer airworthy. I have had it hanging in my garage for a few years, and have decided it would be...

Private Pilot Uniforms by Frank[_11_]
I am anticipating getting my private certificate in the not-too-distant future. I know this may sound like a real dorky thing to some people, which is why I am reluctant to ask my instructor, but I was thinking about getting a uniform. I do not want to do anything against any "protocol", nor...

$1 + OVC by Ben Smith
Hello and happy Friday : I requested an FAA CD-ROM with all the archived paperwork for my plane. While looking through the various 'Bill of Sale' forms, most of them say '$1 + OVC' for the selling price. (OVC = Other Verbal Consideration) Any ideas why this is done? -- Ben C-172 - N13258 @ 87Y

Pin out Collins VHF-251 TSO by Scott D
Was hopping someone here knows what the pin out was for the Collins VHF-251 TSO radio is. I have a spare sitting around and was hoping to make it into a base unit to monitor while I am working out in the hanger. If someone knows what it is, please post. Thanks Scott D.

Grumman AA5 series....facts versus fiction question by pgonzalez52
Hi folks, I was in the process of purchasing an AA-5A cheetah this week and spoke with the owner about it. Pictures looked good and the specs were reasonable for the price. Then I inquire about damage and use. NDH, great. But then came the bombshell. I asked and he said that he sees around 112-115...

Anyone wrapped their yokes in leather? by Jay Honeck
We've got a bag full of leather scraps, left over from our new interior job last fall. I would like to wrap our yokes with it, so that they match the seats and throttle cover. Anyone ever done this? I don't want to just wind the stuff around and have it look like crap in a few months. Should I...

PA28-181 Fuel pressure drop off - Inspired by the Gascolotor thread. by Roy Page
I bought our Piper Archer just over a year ago from a Californian owner and flew it home to it's new base in Ohio. On the flight home, we noticed on long climbs that the fuel pressure fell off from an indicated mid scale reading to about one third scale. In level cruise the indicated pressure...
