5% SSA Group Insurance Discount by
Jim Skydell
I recently learned that the SSA Group Hull and Liability Insurance
Program through Costello now offers a 5% premium discount for any
insured SSA member who is also a member of AOPA.
A nice way to save a few bucks, or (maybe) pay for the cost of
membership in either of the organizations.

5" PNA & APIC by
brian whatcott
It's thanks to this group that I bought a PNA and loaded it with a
moving map. The Garmin IQue and APIC combination has been a great boon
cross-country despite the well known problems with bright sunlight and
small text on screen.
And now I have ordered a chinese 5 inch PNA for the same...

5"PDA recommendation? by
Mike[_8_]
I am interested in buying a 5" PNA on eBay in an attempt to connect to
a Cambridge 302A. If someone who has purchased one, could recommend a
seller and particular device that has 800X480 display and direct
access to Win CE5 or CE6, I would appreciated it?
Thanks in advance.

I recently participated in the annual Soar-in at Lone Pine, CA, which
is hosted by Caracole Soaring every year over Memorial Day weekend.
After spectacular soaring weather and great flights, we punctuated the
weekend with a roller coaster ride from Mount Whitney peak, which is
the highest mountain...

Today a backside ridge misson was called. Three Barns and Mill Creek were the

starters ran into big trouble near the first turn with many splashing down.
Some at the airport near the turn or others in fields. The later...

Is anyone exploring this device.

Not sure how to get one, since they're only being sold in the Korean
market, but it looks like an intriguing option.
Cheers,

50 years of space (Not related to soaring) by
Bill Daniels
I remember vividly a cold dark night in the New Mexico desert. It was
1957 and the Russians had just launched Sputnik. The USAF needed help
obtaining orbital data for the worlds first satellite.
I found myself, a 16 year old high school science club member, at a
theodolite staring at the star...

500 foot rule and pilot opinion poll by
John Cochrane
Fellow US pilots:
This year's SRA pilot poll will be on line in a few days. It contains
a question on the 500 foot rule. I urge you to read it, think about
it, and vote. In particular, this is a rule that benefits newer, less
experienced pilots. It doesn't matter much to the top 5 national...

5000 meter height gain by

How do most pilots go about the 5000 meter height gain in the Sierras?
Somehow getting in a glider on a cold/windy Minden winter day does
not sound like me. During the summer I stumbled across a wave
condition behind Mt Rose but I was not sure about how the O2 system
worked and where/whether the...
