About how much does a 1969 Eisenburg Gruber model APR 1812 trailer weigh? by [email protected]
Yes, it's a glider trailer. Looks kinda like a two-wheeled torpedo with only one fin. I'm not clear if I can tow one even empty as the person who has it doesn't know either. I'm limited to 1500 lbs. Gliders are light, so I figure the trailer might be too. But at 28 ft long I doubt it...

About the Governance of the Soaring Society of America by [email protected]
It's been brought to my attention that some members have asked where they might find documentation relating to the governance of the SSA (on its website). I hope this sheds some light and puts to rest any notion the SSA is not transparent. As the Director of Region 6 it is my opinion that the SSA...

Absurdity of US Rules (in fairness to FAI) by Sean F (F2)
Several times this season (18 meter nationals for example) I experienced the following US Rules starting procedure... 1) 10 - 15 gliders thermalling together 500 feet above maximum start height.. Watching each other looking for the best time to start. This requires significant time on the "PDA"...

AC Williams -Final Glide by [email protected]
AC And Mary Williams Died Today I was very saddened when I received word this evening that both A. C. and his wife Mary died in a tragic automobile highway accident while traveling in Oklahoma today. A.C. had been a National 1-26 Champion pilot back in the 1960s, and had established the well-known...

AC-4 Russia newsgroup question by [email protected]
Yahoo is shutting down its newsgroups, of which there has been an active one for Russia owners. Has any of files and photos been moved somewhere else? Over time, I have placed a lot of photos and files that improve on the glider, and would be a pity if this information were lost.

AC5 M safety? by Nicholas L
Does anyone have any thoughts regarding the safety of the Russia AC5M self launcher? The propeller is inches from the pilots head with the engine in the stowed position. How much of a hazard would this be in a hard landing or crash? How safe is the cockpit? I dont much like the location of the...

Accelerated Glider Add-On by Rtr
I'm a PP-ASEL. I've been wanting to get into soaring for some time now. It appears that it will take quite a while with the local club to get an add-on complete, likely the rest of the summer. They only have one two-place glider and it's quite popular on the weekends. I'm considering doing a...

Accelerated license course? by Deane
In Australia I have heard there are places where you can get your sailplane license in a week of continuous training. I already have much aviation experience (HG) and would like to get my sailplane license but balk at driving the 4 hours round trip to the closest sailport, about 40 times to get the...

Accelerated spin in unexpected direction at low altitude by [email protected]
There are three messages here Your glider may not always enter spin in the same direction you turn or circle. At high bank 50-60 degree in tight turn with high G load your upper wing may stall first. In a split second you can get in accelerated spin in unexpected direction. Scenario could be a new...

Accepting cable/rope at start. by Bill Daniels
The is related to the other thread on winch launch. I am a firm believer in not accepting an aerotow rope or a winch cable until the pilot is completely ready to fly. I teach my students the same. As a learning routine, I will brief the line person to interrupt the student pilot while he is...

ACCESS DENIED! by GARY BOGGS

The Port of Hood River and the FBO at 4S2 tried to force me out, but I WON! I had to get a lawyer involved, and it took 6 weeks, but we out lasted them, and finally got them to understand that I wasn't going away. When we notified them that every email that they wrote, and every email they...

Accident - Need a trainer ASAP by [email protected]
This last week we had a freakish Winter Storm come through Utah while I was out of the country. Winds in excess of 70MPH hit the airport and my SGS-233A pulled it's tiedowns out of the ground and it ended up in a fence, totalled. I have been working with my young son preparing him to solo on his...
