Beale Street Rocks! by
Jay Honeck
As many of you know, I'm in Memphis as I'm typing this. We've been on
a 5-day Spring Break barnstorming tour, flying wherever and whenever
the weather looks best. We were supposed to be in Texas, but ended
up in North Carolina, visiting Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk.
We then flew down the...

"Full length" by
buttman
What does it mean when a controller says "Cleared for landing full
length", or "cleared for takeoff full length"?
I've never heard this said until I started flying out of this airport
I'm based at now which has a 11,800 ft. runway. Does it mean he wants
me to land further down towards the middle...

Amusing exchange of property use by
FLAV8R
I was searching for an airport I flew out of (9A7) back around the early
90's and when I found the area on Google maps it had been converted to a
prison.
But if you use Live Search their images are about 10 years older and you can
clearly see where the airport was.
This was a little mom and pop...

The pass at Gorman by
Cecil Chapman
Question for those of you that live in the So Calif area. As early a
morning crossing as possible (taking account winds are low at the 'top')
would seem warranted, but for crossing back to Nor Calif, when is the best
time to head back over the pass for max passenger comfort, on the way back?...

747-400 questions by
Mxsmanic
Two things bothering me lately:
1. Sometimes when I autostart 2 and 3 after starting 1 and 4, I get an alarm
as I pull the start switch or when I pull the start button. However, there's
no message on the MFD or anything, so I can't figure out what they aircraft is
complaining about. I haven't...

Boarding with engines running by
Mxsmanic
Is it safe/advisable to board a small single- or twin-engined aircraft while
the prop(s) and engine(s) are turning? I'm just wondering if this is feasible
if you just have someone getting on or getting off (with the pilot being in
the aircraft the whole time).
On a related note, how long can you...

Autothrottle retards on derated take-off in 747 by
Mxsmanic
If I set derated thrust for take-off in my 747-400, the autothrottle pulls the

right around V1. I have to pull the A/T and advance the throttles myself or
risk a crash.
Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong? I have...

Little River Airport, CA by
Robert M. Gary
I've tried to call the airport several times but no one seems to be
answering the phone. Does anyone know if they still have the van/taxi
that runs between the airport and the town? I was thinking of taking
the kids there for the afternoon on Sunday.
