Dept procedures stumper questions by
[email protected]
Here's some items to liven up the group...
1. Suppose your departure clearance includes "cross X vor at or above
5000, Y vor at or above 10,000, maintain 15,0000 feet." Once airborne
you're given "maintain FL200". Do the altitude restrictions at X and
Y vor's still apply?
2. Now suppose...

Departure Procedure jStumper Question by
[email protected]
Take a look at Salmon Idaho KSMN, Ahehu 1 RNAV Dept (Obstacle). I
realize few aircraft are equipped to fly this, however;
1. Notice the "at 200 kt" requirement for some waypoints. Is this
TAS, GS, or IAS? And a reference please if you know of one.
2. Why is the stipulation "at" instead of...

Chief Counsel rulings.... by
[email protected]
Anyone know where to view ruling by the FAA's chief counsel? In
particular, I'm looking for the one that that states "departure
procedures" referred to in Far 91.129(g) are only those traffic
pattern departure routes that the FAA sometimes establishes for a
particular airport. As opposed to say...

Dreaming STARS by
[email protected]
Was I dreaming? Or did I once hear that RNP 1 and 2 stars/sids had
been published in the USA? I see type A and B, but these are RNAV,
and so must have no RNP requirement whatsoever, and can be flown by
any /G aircraft. Anyone provide some info?

ILS sans identification by
[email protected]
Anyone have a reference for a requirement to identify an ils or vor
prior to it's use in the USA?
Secondly, is there any reference to the type of identification
required? For example, would checking that the primary flight display
is displaying the correct identifier suffice? Or is there...

Use of Anti Icing by
[email protected]
Does anyone know of an airplane manufacturer that specifies engine or
wing anti ice systems need to be activated a set amount of time
(minutes) prior to entering icing conditions? The ones I've seen only
say "prior to entering...", but no requirement given to have it on for
a set time prior in...

Talking to departure control by
[email protected]
I'm not from the US, but just wondering if you depart ifr from an
airport and tower tells you to contact departure, I know that you
check in with callsign, altitude through, and cleared altitude.
But I was wondering if the AIM recommends anywhere also to include the
departure runway and the...

Attitude indicators by
R&A Kyle
A typical AI display is "inside out", ie the view is from inside the plane
looking out. Some (Russian) aircraft use the reverse display, ie a fixed
horizon and a moving airplane graphic. Does anyone know of work done to
measure the human factors benefits / penalties of these two approaches?
BTW...

Coming along slowly. If you're interested check it out. Looks like the
prints will only be 8x10's, and probably not worth fooling with, but, hey,
they're out there.

Terminal Forecasts (FT) by
[email protected]
I'm a bit confused about the aviation Terminal Forecasts (FT) report.
Has this report be replaced by the TAF report? On the www.noaa.gov web
site I see the TAF report avialability but I don't see the FT report
anywhere.
Thanks...

FAA Thumped again by

No big surprise here. The politically Correct destruction of once was a
proud professional organization is evident. Rather than Air Safety, Gay
Pride celebrations and promoting unqualified minorities into management
is the new priority of the "Politically Correct misaligned unsafe FAA"

Altimeter: Hot to cold = look out below?! by
[email protected]
It seems that based on the way the altimeter works, the pressure is directly proportional to the difference between the pressure set in the Kollsman Window, and the outside air pressure. So the greater this difference, the greater the altimeter's altitude reading.
When flying from a warmer area to...

Printing IAPs by
Randy
This has bugged me...I'm trying to print a few IAPs for an upcoming
trip but I can't figure out how to get them to print the standard
size...everything I'm doing ends up blown up to a full size 8.5x11
page.
I've got the files from AOPA and the FAA website and both do the same
thing. Anybody have...
