Xantus vtol??? by
R-U-N
A while back the Xantus vtol 4 place kit was looking pretty cool. Now
they seem to have disapeared. Anyone know what happened? Their web
site www.vtol1.com is now a lame place holder site and has been since
around late last year. I couldn't find any info as to what happened
to them.

Xprize and tethered space station by
Ray Toews
I read an article about a theoretical tethered space station, where a
long cable was payed out from the surface and attached to a space
station, there are obvious technical problems to overcome but
notwithstanding them it makes sense in a logical way to attach an
object with a wire to a spinning...

Yee-ha! by
Bushy
Did it today! After 12 years of watching the sky and dreaming, I finally had
my first fly since buying the farm. (Wonder if anyone can guess why I
stopped flying?)
2 hours 20 minutes of shear joy in two lessons, flew over my farm for the
first time and flew a taildragger to boot! I know some of...

Yet More Stupid Tig 101 Questions by
Ded Dog
Have had a tig in basement for several years and hardly used. Now that
I need it I find that I really suck at it. Started practicing welding
little pieces of 4130 together. Decided no way I am touching my
fuselage with it and dragged out the mig which I can do ok with. But
didn't quite give up and...

Yo! Fuel Tank! by
Veeduber
Riveted aluminum fuel tanks are smart. They're easy to build and superbly
practical for the homebuilder since she can make them in whatever shape she
needs.
Most folks shy away from this fabrication technique due to the high cost of
Pro-Seal, still listed at more than $8/oz in the Aircraft Spruce...

You Know You're Old Dept. by
[email protected]
You know you're old when some kid posts a picture of a plane you've
flown in captioned: 'What the hell is THIS?'
(It's an AJ-2, son. A nice airplane and one of the largest to have
flown off an Essex-class carrier.)

You Started It; I Finished It by
Larry Smith
I'm repairing a set of aluminum flaps with some cracks around the rivets on
the trailing edge. Take a look at the flap trailing edge of a later model
172 and you will see a neat 3-layer sandwich. The older 172's did not have
this feature, a thick beaded stiffener in the middle which stiffens...
