Garmin GpsMap 396 - Flight Test #2 by
Mike Spera
So I set up my other 2 GPS units in the cockpit and put their external
antennas right next to the Garmin. The Lowrance Airmap 1000 and an old
Apollo 920+ showed 5-9 sats up near the 80%. The Garmin showed 8+ sats
pinned at the top and one or two more at 50%. Immediately after liftoff
the Garmin...

Bendix King GPS Updates by
Matthew Waugh
I'm looking for information, feedback, pitfalls of updating Bendix-King
GPS's such as the KLN-89B and KLN-94 by updating the cards directly as
opposed to plugging into the GPS itself. I understand that there is a card
reader you can buy and that there is a firmware upgrade to it that allows
the...

KMBO Pracitice area "Performance values" - Video by
A Lieberma[_2_]
I did this flight with a discussion in mind with another Sundowner
pilot. He was saying best he could do was 95 knots with 2400 RPM in
his Sundowner which I thought were awefully low performance values..
Discussion with him does make me think, am I getting the most bang out
of my 180 ponies??? ...

engine startup problem by
Frank Ch. Eigler
Hi -
Very rarely, one of the 6-cylinder Lycoming IO-540's in my Aztec acts
up after startup. There is a fair amount of vibration, and a high MP
(20") for the resting 1000rpm, and if the engine monitor is turned on,
it shows three of the six cylinder (1, 3, 6) not making any heat.
Turning on the...

Cessna 172 Empty CGs by
[email protected]
I'm working with a Cessna 172A, which is the '59 model.
It has a full panel with a pair of KX170s, and an ADF. It has been
modified with the 0-300D engine which supports a vacuum pump.
This is the 6 cylinder engine with Millenium cylinders. I don't think
they add much weight -- but it would be...

Cardinal 177A 1968 advice by
[email protected]
Hello there,
I am considering the purchase of a Cardinal 177A with low frame and
engine times, nice gps and slaved HSI. It has had 2 accidents, one in
2003 requiring major work to everything in front of and including the
firewall. I have flown the plane and it feels heavier on the landings
with...

Turbo Normalised Bonanza F33A by
Geoff Semler
I am looking at buying a F33A which is turbonormalised. Does anyone have
any knowledge about the value this adds to the aircraft. I know the cost of
fitting but this one was done in 1991, and it is the original turbo. How
much does it add to the value of the basic aircraft?
TIA

AC to DC Converter for APU by
Newps
Jim Burns wrote:
This is for all the RV'ers and/or pilot/campers in the group. I'm wondering
if anybody has ever made an "APU" out of an RV type AC to DC power
converter.
I do some airplane camping each year as well as own a fifth wheel.
I was wondering if something like the RV...

Pre-purchase (how to) by
Steven Barnes
2 friends & I are starting to look at Cherokee 180's to buy. We're in a
flying club, but want our own plane. My biggest question at this point is
how to arrange pre-purchase inspections. Especially when the plane is far
away from our home base (KSPI). Is there a resource somewhere where we can
look...

Radio Squeal by
B. Jensen
I just hard wired my ANR headset into my ship's power so that I no
longer have to use a 9v battery as a power source. Now I am getting an
intermittent squeal when I transmit. I never had this problem with the
9v power pack. My ANR is a Headsets Inc. conversion to a David Clark
headset.
Any ideas...

Low Time and Insurance - Cessna P206 by
Shawn
I am a student pilot getting ready to solo next week (26 hours now). I
am interested in a 1/3rd share of a '65 P206 due to my large family.
Apparently annual insurance is currently $1950. The seller has
contacted the partnership's insurance broker who has checked with
their current insurer who...

PS Engineering PM3000 Intercom? by
One's Too Many
Anyone here have the PS Engineering PM3000 stereo 4-place intercom?
Is it really worth $200 more than the comparable Flightcom 403?
How well does it sound with music input from an iPod?
It's TSO'ed, so my A&P/IA is having much less heartburn about
installing it... seems the Houston FSDO has...

First time for me going down to near ILS minimums by myself. Video

Video I think does a good job on demonstrating why the runway may not
be always exactly in front of you after wind correction angle
considerations...

Garmin 396 Glitch?? by

several...some lasting 15-20 minutes. System shutdowns/start ups may
or may not re-initialize it. THe antenna is unobstructed and in plain

Landing lights, incandescent, halogen and Xenon HID by

I have finally got my wing tips painted and on my Seneca, they have the
hid lights in them. I had the Piper wingtip recognition lights before,
35 watters, not good enough to show a light in daylight.
My attention is now turning towards my actual landing lights. These are
located on the nosegear...

Prop Feathers and Engine Shuts down after landing???????? by

Today I was flying my Twin Comanche PA30 everything was great until after
landing. Once I had the wheels on the ground I pulled the power back to idle,
about three seconds or so after I pulled the power back the prop feathered and
the engine shut down. I let the engine cool down for about 30 min...
