Maintaining VFR altitudes when following N/S roads/rivers by
Mxsmanic
If you are following a road or river or other feature on the ground while
flying VFR, and that feature runs north/south but often veers off to one side
or the other, are you expected to change your altitude each time you move from
a heading of 0-179 to 180-359 or vice versa?

Difficult Strips by

It is all relative. A 5000 foot paved runway that is 150 feet wide can be
challenging to a 747 pilot.

Careless Linemen by
Kyle Boatright
How do the rest of you deal with careless linemen? The kind who scratch
your airplane or chip the paint because they are either careless or have not
been properly trained on how to avoid damaging aircraft when refueling 'em.
Case in point - this afternoon I stopped by the airport to prep for a...

Flying a private plane around the Caribbean in spring 2004 by
Klaus Bucka-Lassen
Hi everybody
We are two Danes and two Austrians who have thought of flying around
the Carribean for about a month in late winter/wpring 2004. Just from
looking at the map we figure it should be possible to do some loop
around the Caribbean Sea (Cuba - Haiti - Domenican Rep. - Puerto Rico
-...

Wichita Airspace Question and overlapping airspace by
Owen[_4_]
So, Wichita, Kansas seems to be blessed with a lot of airports and the
sectional chart looks pretty busy. To the east of Wichita Mid Continent
(ICT), there is Col. Jabara (towerless), Beech Factory (private field
w/ tower), McConnell AFB, etc.
McConnel's Class D just grazes Beech's towered...

Engine failure by

I had a situation yesterday at the end of my local "just because" flight

is favourable and you just want to go flying).
Was flying a rental 172. Took off like a rocket (lightly loaded solo...
cold air about freezing),...

Idea to prevent plane hijack by
neo
Separate cockpit and passengers by wall with no door, no window, just
plane wall. No mechanism of communication whatsover with cockpit from
passenger area. That will discourage hijacker because whatever he do,
pilot will not know.
When terrorists know that even flight staff can not talk to pilot,...

piper cargo twin crashes in eastern washington by
steve
Just heard about this on the morning news. Apparently pilot with 4 months
with the company had trouble maintaining altitude and attempted a landing at
the Easton, WA airstrip. It sounds like he came up short and crashed into
some trees, then cartwheeled and burst into flames.
This is tragic,...

wanted: hangar door tips by
Joa
Our EAA chapter had a 40' hangar door that split in the middle and
folded sideways (each half). The ends were hinged and the center had
a single roller that ran in a track above. The bottom was not
attached in any way and just hung. It was held closed and open with
large steel pins that dropped...

Short trip to Oshkosh by

Greetings,
Well, I went to Oshkosh last week and loved it. I spent about three hours in
the museum, not nearly enough, but it was enough to get a feel of the place.
The place was dead though. There was about 4 other people in the place
besides my friend and I. In a way this was neat because I...

Denver Terminal Area Chart Question - BVR vor/dme by
Robert Easton
Does anybody know why on the Denver Terminal Area Chart, the Byers (BVR
113.5) vor/dme facility is charted without the compass ring that are on most
vortacs? It's the only one I've seen charted like this. Byers is located
33NM on the 090 radial of DVV (the Denver International Vortac).
Thanks,...
