"The High and the Mighty" DVD available in August by Paul kgyy
I just received an e-mail notice from amazon that the John Wayne movie from E. Gann's great novel will be released in August in DVD format. I've never seen the movie but have enjoyed the book several times.

"W" is JFK's son and Bush revenge killed Kennedy in 1963 by Ross C. Bubba Nicholson
JFK gave Barbara Pierce a lesson in life in the summer of 1944 (making her a "Cape Cod heiress"), and to her eventual husband, JFK gave a personal motive for revenge. Perhaps if George and Barb had announced their earlier engagement or even if George had given Barb a diamond instead of a cheap...

"what's burning?" by 569
Well it was late spring in the old Cessna 152. My friend a non-current pilot and I went up to put some holes in the sky. We did some touch and goes at 2 airport not more than 30 miles from my home base in central Connecticut. We flew low down the Connecticut River enjoying the view. As we,...

"Where" is my destination? by Ben Jackson
Leaving OAK I called ground and asked for flight following to 7S3 (which I gave by name and spelled phonetically). Later, while I'm taxiing they come back with "where is that" and I couldn't imagine how I could help them if the identifier didn't, so I came up with "near McMinnville", which is both...

"Wind 285 at 186" by Capt.Doug
"Wind 285 at 186". That's the highest I've ever seen outside a hurricane. I was coming from the Windy City going south to the Sunshine State at FL330 and crossing the jetstream. The ride through it wasn't too bad, just occasional light chop. I'm sure glad I wasn't westbound! D.

"zero" versus "oscar" versus "sierra" by Ron Garret
I fly an airplane whose last two digits in its identifier are "0P" (indicating that it's an OurPlane aircraft). Of course, OurPlane would have liked it to be "OP" instead, but the FAA won't allow "oscar" in aircraft identifiers, only "zero". It happens that there's another airplane at my airport...

$ by Hilton
$ means maintenance required on a METAR (and some people thank that the FAA has no sense of humor) Anyway, if a $ appears in the METAR, does it mean that: 1. No METAR info should be trusted 2. All METAR info should be trusted but some might be missing 3. It is guaranteed to be VFR anyway Thanks,

$#@! TSA requirements by C J Campbell
We just got back from a Caribbean cruise, so now I can say that I have taken that dam ship to Hell (the Maasdam, to be specific). I was most disappointed that Martin Hotze was not in Hell. I was told he was away on assignment. Against all my previous resolutions, we flew commercial down to...

Anyone care to recommend a spot near North Carolina that would be good to fly the wife to dinner for her birthday? Looking for something half way fancy that would be good to have a limo pick us up at the airport and take us to a nice dinner place and then limo back to the airport afterwards. tks.

$100 hamburger now pay only by Helen Woods
If you haven't noticed, the $100 hamburger web site has gone pay only. A new free alternate site has popped up which I suggest we support instead: CPA Member Don Johnston has started a new web site Flying-Food.com. Similar to a site that recently went to a subscription service, this site relies on...

$100 hamburger radius by Stubby
2 McD selections at $4 each plus 2 "drinks" at $1 each leaves $90 for the airplane. Assume it is all gas at $3/gal. So that is 30 gal or 15 gal out and 15 back. At 10 gph, we have to get the hamburgers within a 1.5 hr radius. With lots of assumptions, mostly 100 kts, we must get the burgers...
