Hinges under stress - mechanical engineering type question by Corrie
Thinking about a hinge like this (end view): ____(O)____ where "___" is the plate, "( )" is the barrel, and "O" is the hinge pin. It would be bolted through the plates to the surface below. The barrel sits "on top" of the plates. Hope that makes sense. It's in tension and/or compression (some...

Custom Planes type? by Corrie
In the Oct. Custom Planes article on VW crackshafts, it seems that the text and the chart do not agree. The text says that 1 and 4 are the paired cylinders. According to the chart, though (based on the description of 'paired' in the text), 1 and 3 should be paired. Am I having a premature senior...

Elementis 3243 Epoxy? by Corrie
Wondering if anyone has used this. A local industrial supply house recommended it when I asked about T-88, which they didn't carry. (Yes, I know I can get T-88 from AS or Wicks) It was failry inexpensive so I picked up a half-gallon, and I plan to do some tests. According to the specs sheet it has...

Wood questions - Public Lumber Company, determining species at the lumberyard by Corrie
http://www.publiclumber.com/2x4sitkaspruce.html Anyone had any dealings with them? They sell "aircraft/spar-grade" 2x4 spruce for $4.50 / lin.ft. Their prices on marine ply are about what I can get locally, but the price on spruce beats most I've seen. Of course, it's only a good deal if the...

US source for Aerolite? by Corrie
Is there a US supplier for the two-part adhesive system Aerolite? So far it only seems to be available in the UK, exported only in large quantities. Any place to get a small quantity (eqiv of a pint) to experiment with? Corrie

Gorilla Glue? by Corrie
http://www.gorillaglue.com/theglue/ Any opinions? Is a two-part epoxy like T-88 inherently superior to a one-part catalyzed polyurethane? Why?

Jim Weir - PTT switch article? by Corrie
Jim - back several months ago you had an article in either Kitplanes or Custom Planes about a PTT switch. My copy has vanished since the last move. Is there an online copy of the article? A search at Kitplanes.com came up dry. Corrie

mogas by cosmick
Do you own and fly an experimental or mogas-stc aircraft based at a field that does not have mogas? If you would like to help other experimental/mogas-stc pilots obtain mogas when they travel, and see some interesting planes when they pass through your area, add yourself to the...

Correcting Poly-Brush mistake by Craig Foster
I applied the first coat of Poly-Brush on a little more than half of my fuselage (experimental homebuilt) before I realized I had not stirred the can of Poly-Brush before using. Once the contents from the bottom were stirred up the coating was definitely a darker shade of pink. Is this going to...

Single vs Double flared tubing by Craig Foster
Do aluminum aircraft fuel lines need to be double flared for AN fittings (37 degree flaring)? There is a significant difference in cost between a single and double flaring tool. I ran across this in Car Craft magazine: "Most tubing in the aircraft industry is extruded in one piece with no...

37 Degree Single vs Double Flared Tubing by Craig Foster

IVO Propellers by [email protected]
I have an ivo that has 600 hours on it. I just had a rock go through one blade. It didn't hurt it much I think I made it worse by digging it out a little too much. I'm going to apoxy it and use proptape to fix it and I would fly it anywhere anytime. Very good props and the story behind the company...
