Liberty Engine(valve) by Frank Sculy
Hi All: I have a bunch of valves which we are cleaning up, and, knowing where they came from, I am pretty sure they are for the Liberty Engine. If possible, can some one confirm? Here are the dimensions: valve stem dia: .435 head dia: 2.736 overall length: 6.230 The tip of the stem has 3 grooves...

possible FAA action... flight or fight? by [email protected]
I got in a little trouble with the FAA and they want to take my license for 6 months. Now their case isn't too strong (and based very much on the subjectivity of "safe" and not on any clear cut violation of a FAR). I'm trying to decide whether to fight it (expensive attorney fees) or just suck it...

aerial photography by [email protected]
What are the rules if I want to take and sell photos from an amateur built experimental airplane? I wouldn't be carrying anyone, just taking pictures or videos and selling them. Do I need a commercial? frank

Experimental FAA Cetification by fred D

Fiberglass cloth weight vs 'finished' weight by Fred the Red Shirt
I was perusing the composite matierals in the Aircraft Spruce catalog pages and noted that the fiberglass (and other ) cloths are characterized by a unit weight, like 5.8 oz/square yard. My naive assumption is that the cloth as purchased would, on average, weigh 5.8 oz /square yd. But some of the...

Is there an online (or other) source for coordinates, polars, etc for slotted airfoils? I checkout out the information on the Zenith airfoils at: http://www.ae.illinois.edu/m-selig/ads/coord_database.html They are described as standard or modified NACA airfoils with and there doesn't appear to be...

reynolds number by Fred the Red Shirt
Sorry, Google won't let me post this as a follow-up. In the broadest sense, the reynolds number is a measure of the degree of turbulence. A low reynolds number corresponds to laminar flow while a high reynolds number corresponds to turbulent flow. However, as turbulence is fundamentally a...

What's wrong with this engine? by Fred the Red Shirt
I was perusing some lists of Ultralight engines and noted that the Limbach 275 was listed as 20 - 25 hp and 17 lb. I figured that was a typo, since it was less than half of the weight of other engines of comporable power--more likely it was 17 hp at 20 - 25 lb, still good stats. But I've seen it...
