Vertical Card Compass Mystery by
Rosspilot
A strange thing has happened that I cannot explain. I wonder what the
readership thinks . . .
I have a Precision vertical card compass. I fly at least 3 times a week, and I
know my airplane real well. Last week, when I looked at my compass, the little
airplane
that should point up was about 30...

time for avionics upgrade... by
kontiki
I'm thinking seriously now about upgrading the avionics in my Comanche.
An HSI would be a nice thing to have too (once you've flown something with
one you become a believer) so I'm thinking of combining the effort and
putting one of them in too. Maybe a GNS 430 and keeping the 155 as my
second...

Rubber fuel cells by
Mike Rapoport
I have a Helio Courier with four fuel cells holding 30 gallons each. My
typical flight uses ~35 gallons so I would like to leave the outer (aux)
tanks empty most of the time. I understand that leaving them empty will
reduce their life expectancy. How much should I expect the life expectancy
to...

Pre-buy Inspection by
Jon Kraus
My new partner and I are looking at a 1975 Mooney M20C. It is a nicely
upgraded IFR plane with a 400 hour O-360 engine. It is a rather high
time airplane (7000) hours and the price reflects this fact. It is being
sold by the owner of the FBO we fly out of for one of his friends. They
just finished...

Strange engine event by
Paul Mennen
For the last 200 hours I've recorded all the data from my engine
analyzer which makes it easy to look at such things. Anyway a week
ago I was flying along steady at 12 thousand feet when I noticed
an unusual shift in the engine bar graph display. Looking at the
recorded data I see that all flight...

Mandatory SB565 Lycoming fuel pump by
Paul kgyy
I received a notice in the mail. It says,
"If your Lycoming engine has a diaphragm-type fuel pump with Lycoming
P/N LW-15473 installed, and has a date code of 3201, the pump must be
replaced PRIOR TO NEXT FLIGHT."
The defective pumps were shipped from Lycoming between 10/1/01 and
2/2/04.
It...

Dawley Aviation PIREP, or: Atlas is BACK by
Jay Honeck
We were grounded last week, after discovering a cracked exhaust pipe and
rotted muffler baffles during routine maintenance.
Amazingly, we discovered that Dawley Aviation (*the* exhaust repair station
in the Midwest, and the place my A&P recommended) is located in Burlington,
WI -- literally on the...

"Aircraft Paint & Prep Booth" experiences? by
Hi all; I'm wondering if anybody here has any experience with "Aircraft
Paint & Prep Booth" at the Corona airport in Southern California.
How was their work? Did it hold up over time?
Also, someone has told me there's a good paint shop at the Sebring,
FL airport, but couldn't remember its name. ...

OSH Sleeping by
Douglas Paterson[_2_]
OSH First-Timer (hopefully!) here. Assuming I can get the plane out of
annual in time, I plan to make the trip!
I'm curious about lodging. I snagged a room at the Super 8 on the field.
Outrageous prices, of course, and I also wonder if I'm missing an essential
part of the experience by not...

Mixture--science vs witchcraft? by
Douglas Paterson
Still getting to know my new baby (1990 TB-20, normally aspirated 250hp
Lycoming IO-540). I imagine my question here must apply to most non-turbo,
non-FADEC pistons (though I gather there's some sort of altitude compensator
on some airplanes' engines?). I live in Colorado, which means routine...
