Dutch Roll? by
Ron Hardin
Do modern jet airliners still have a noticeable dutch roll? I haven't
flown in anything for a couple decades, and was wondering if it's been
damped out to zero by modern control theory, or still exists.
I first noticed it trying to take solar sights with an elaborate
protractor and bubble level...

The third picture down. Does anyone know if this is an aircraft part? I
think dad intimated it was, but he could easily be wrong about
that. TIA.

escape pods prevent needless commercial aircrash deaths (1960) by
Sawna Hawley
What I love about this funky illustration from 1960 Mechanix
Illustrated is the carefree look on the passenger's faces even though
they are pulling like 2 gees as their escape pod drogues away from the
burning aircraft.

The current condition and location of the aircraft are unknown. A
recent search of the FAA N number database list the Pro's N number
(N5143T) as reserved, with no aircraft assigned to the number. A
search of the NYSB aviation accident database can find no accident

Generator on 100LL? by
Mark Morissette
Does anyone have any experience with running 100LL in a generator?
I picked up a small and quiet (900 Watt) genny a week or so back for
Oshkosk, and am considering the fuel options for it once we get there.
The manual was of only minor help, mentioning a minimum of 87 Octane
"unleaded". Its the...

Engine doesn't make minimum static rpm by
Bob Fry
Aircoupe Alon A2 with C90 engine with two props, one 48" pitch and the
other 52". It doesn't make the static runup RPM minimums with either
one, for instance the 48" prop should be 2225 to 2325 rpm, I averaged
out to 2162 rpm. Likewise the 52" prop falls short 100 rpm or more.

A bit of aviation history - 16 December 1936 by
Seppo Sipilä
Here is a bit of aviation history.
67 years ago, on 16 December 1936 in Finland, Helsinki Airport at
Malmi was first opened to traffic.
Helsinki-Malmi Airport is possibly the best-preserved still active
international airport left in the world from the pre-WWII era. The
milieu of this...
