FLARM Fusion Range by
Matt Herron Jr.
Hi guys,
I just installed a FLARM Fusion and am getting some very poor results. The antennas are installed symmetrically on either side of the canopy rail (see photographs) in an ASW27b. They clip into a plastic adaptor printed from ABS, and each antenna has a clear 180 degree view out the side...

I am looking for some reliable data on the Rotax Falkes towing performance,
but I have until now not found any consistent values.
I would therefore very much appreciate if you would send me some
information, if you have any experience in this area.

Biggest Glider Ever Launched via Winch? by
[email protected]
In our winch clinic last week, the paraglider folks we shared the dry
lake with, seemed surprised we could get something as big as a Blanik
off the ground with a long steel cable.
Their tandem instructor asked our CFIG, "what was the largest gross
weight sailplane ever ground launched". Never...

Cobra Trailer Spare Tire mount failure by
Barny
Just a warning to check your trailer spare before a trip and along the
way at gas stops. My 1998 trailer spare tire mount broke on a highway
trip. The wheel is mounted on the frame that holds the glider nose in
place. Two 8mm bolts welded to the nose cone frame hold the wheel to
the frame. One...

SLA batteries opinions? by
john firth
Recently I tested two 12v SLA s which had been in use
sequentially for some years usually recharged before going
going flat, or at least within one day.
Both were run down to 10.5 v with a 10 ohm load and then recharged to 14v,
The Yuasa 7 AH bought 2005 was good for about 2.5 AH
the UB...

Buy Glider without looking by
Casey[_2_]
Has anyone every sold a glider without the buyer looking at it?
I have my glider listed for sell and the guy is buying without looking at it and sending a cashiers check and arranging shipping....sound familiar.

Soaring in China by
Michael Ash
I'm going to China for a few weeks in October and I thought it would be
nice to get in a little flying while I'm there. Unfortunately information
on the subject seems hard to find. I've found a couple of posts in this
group which didn't get much in the way of replies, and I found one article...

Mayday in Utah by
[email protected]
Today (June 11) Oakland Center asked the Global Hawk Test Team to help
with a Mayday call from a motorglider in Utah. The team was flying a
new Global Hawk somewhat above 50,000 feet north of Edwards AFB and
was 8 hours into a 30 hour mission to test the sensor suite when OAK
Center made the...

Rodent Deterrent? by
rlovinggood
I opened up my trailer today and found a live mouse in the cockpit.
Naturally, there was a lot of mouse poop in the cockpit and in the
trailer. I had made at least one mistake of leaving a good supply of
crackers and granola bars in the cockpit and up front in the trailer.
Little bugger had a...

Recognizing and reacting to tow plane engine failure by
son_of_flubber
It would be useful to hear your stories of how incidents of tow plane engine failure turned out for you. It seems that there is very little time to recognize, react, and recover. What are classic mistakes to make in this scenario?
Would it be useful to practice 'release and land to the side of...

1. For National Contests:

new Soaring article by

I wrote an article for Soaring, that will appear in the July issue.
Title: "Gizmo Future." A somewhat unusual view of the "what's in the
future for Soaring" kind of article. It's on my webpage if you just
can't wait for...

A Simple Question About LiFePO4 Batteries by
[email protected]
Not to start another chapter in "Battery Wars" but I have a simple question about "drop in" LiFePO4 battery replacements for SLA batteries in gliders.
For years, I've used an SLA battery with the same footprint as the common glider size of 7Ah to 9Ah--i.e., 5.95" x 2.56"--except a little...
