Plans Built Glider? by
Eggs
Hi folks, I hope this question isn't terribly redundant, but I am having a
heck of a time locating any sailplane plans. In the '70s they were
everywhere, but now that I have both the inclination and the facilities and
the resources, the only plans I find a
1) a 1929 Primary...

convert points kml/kmz to cup by
[email protected]
Does anyone have a reliable way to convert google earth .kml or .kmz to seeyou .cup file format?
I've tried the GPSBable program but it keeps giving me an error "No Valid waypoints/routes/tracks translation specified". So apparently it does not read the .kml input file, but I can reopen it in...

Janus 2-seat glider as a club glider? by
K_Miller
I am interested in learning if other soaring clubs have a Janus 2-seat glider in their fleet, which model they have, its suitability as a club ship and whether they would recommend one to a club that was looking for a 2-seat cross country trainer.
If you have other personal experience in the Janus,...

Sparrowhawk handling by
Hartley Falbaum[_2_]
Is the Sparrowhawk handling suitable for a low time glider pilot who flies infrequently? How is pitch and roll sensitivity compared to say, a Discus B? One of our club members seems to have a big problem staying in position on tow. He does just OK in a K21. I need to know how to help him or...

What happens if a sailplane has no horiz stabilizer or elevator? by
Mark James Boyd
There are some designs which have no horizontal stab: flying wings
for example. There are also canard setups (the speed canard, for example).
For a sailplane, I was thinking about how one might design away
the typical T-tail stabilizer and elevator.
First of all, how much dynamic stability does...

A Simple Question About LiFePO4 Batteries by
[email protected]
Not to start another chapter in "Battery Wars" but I have a simple question about "drop in" LiFePO4 battery replacements for SLA batteries in gliders.
For years, I've used an SLA battery with the same footprint as the common glider size of 7Ah to 9Ah--i.e., 5.95" x 2.56"--except a little...

Dittel radio squelch by
[email protected]
The squelch on my Dittel FSG 50 has got to the point where it lets a lot of noise through. After a search of the Internet, I have found many allusions to the fact that this can be adjusted with one of the internal pots, but cannot find any reference of which one to actually turn. I've attached a...

Cobra trailer wiring diagram by
Tuno
Is there a softcopy someone can send me? ... or any helpful reference?
The running lights on my 2002 Cobra work properly but I get strange
results with the turn signals, testing with three different tow
vehicles.
Are there any caveats I should be aware of in using 6-way-round to 4-
way-flat and...

Volkslogger - Shut off the memory warning buzzer? by
BJen
I fly with the sample rate on my VL set to give me about 9+
hours of data recording. That's sufficient for two normal
flights, and I usually dump it after every flight. However,
the thing begins complaining about low memory when it has 8
hours left, and it keeps complaining every few minutes. ...

Where are the CFIG's? by
Michael
The advertisement for CFIG's recently posted, and the discussion it
spawned, made me realize something. I have yet to see a soaring club
that had enough CFIG's. I'm sure they're out there, but I bet they're
not the norm. Some have waiting lists to join if you lack a glider
rating. Some have...

Tire Stiffness & trailer swaying - resolution by

Here is the feedback on my trailer towing problem.
I thought I'd make a detailed write up to share what I learned with
others.
I was waiting until I gave a real towing trip as proof that this fix
worked. I recently drove from Atlanta up to the Sequatchie Valley in
TN. This included highway...

I bought a Mountain High O2-D1 flowmeter last year as a replacement for a personal one that had gone missing. I used it one time, then found my old one. It has all the parts that come with this unit (cannula, mask, bag, etc..) BUT NO TANK REGULATOR and is ready to go. Since I bought it Mountain...

Glider Handling on Tow by
John Carlyle
A question for any aerodynamicists out the why does low aero tow speed adversely affect the handling of a glider so drastically?
Occasionally I’ve received an aero tow in my LS-8 (dry) at 55 kt (minimum recommended aero tow speed is 54 kt). The plane is heavy and unresponsive at that speed;...

Panel volt meter by
Bob C
I just found a really nice panel volt meter. It is
7/8' X 1-3/4' X 1/8'. Weighs nothing. It needs a
single 7/32' hole for mounting. The wires run through
the single hollow mounting stud to the rear of the
panel. Really slick! 2 wires (+V & ground). Reads
4V to 25V. It's from Lascar...

O2 and Cypriot airliner crash by
[email protected]
In accounts of the crash of the Cypriot airliner in Greece, all I've
read say that loss of cabin pressure could not, by itself, incapacitate
the pilot. Yet, I was once told by an ATP that at 40k feet (admittedly
this plane was at 35k) O2 supply by itself will not suffice to keep you
conscious and...
