Is hyraulic drive posible? by PAW
This is a BS question, but I'm curious. :) I was looking at some hydraulic motors the other day and was wondering if a pump and motor could be used to drive a prop. A crazy example; two hydraulic motors and a couple pumps (powered with a mazda 13b maybe ??) to power something like a Cessna 337...

AND THE KIS CRUISER ROUNDS THE PYLON... by Paul Folbrecht
Merry Christmas to all RAHers!! For no particular reason, I've decided to give a little "brain dump" of where I am right now in my kitplane choosing process. A little background. I'd been dreaming of a two-place kitplane for a number of years, leaning heavily towards an RV-9A for a long time,...

Engine Desing by Chris W
As most of you probably know the opposing cylinders on most engines are slightly offset to allow for the piston connecting rods to attach to the crank at different spots. I know of a few model airplane engines, where instead of having the cylinders offset and having the connecting rods...

Rec.Aviation OSH report by Jim Burns
I just got off the phone with Jay Honeck. The group that had left KIOW this morning arrived at OSH after several holds and an accident on 9/27. Rumors are that a Cherokee pilot perished in an air to ground crash. No other details. For those that are going to the Rec.Aviation.*.* party...

twin-engine kits available by [email protected]
I'm doing some research on what kits are available that are a twin- engine design. I'm looking at possibly building and was curious since Google finds the obvious but didn't want to wade through 20 pages of stuff to find the non-obvious. Thanks. -brad walker

Are 100% electric ultralights around? by YouHelpBuild.com
What problems can anyone forsee to building a 100% electric ultralight aircraft for short & mid-range commuters to get back & forth to work (aside from air traffic issues... it IS a big sky after all)? I understand the average commute is less than 30 miles in land based vehicles which would...

Virus Alert! by Morgans[_2_]
I know that viruses are not part of the newsgroup scene, but this one is important enough, that I felt like making an announcement, to keep someone from getting burned. DO NOT open any e-mails that say "Merry Christmas" in the subject line. It will probably be coming from someone in your...

Made in the USA by Lou
Ok, just spent a week at Oshgosh like quite a few of you and, although I noticed this before it just hasn't changed much. How many LSA's are made in the U.S.A.? I don't mean assembled, I mean, manufactured. Is it really impossible for Americans to design, manufacture, and sell products at a...

To All: Recent posts about the Pobjoy radial engine have generated a number of private messages which indicate some subscribers to this Newsgroup lack a basic understanding in how the Internal Combustion engine actually works. For example ALL engines have some degree of overlap in their cam...

Aviation Sheetmetal Work by [email protected]
To All: Guy calls, wants to buy my metal brake & sheet metal tools. Left unsaid is WHY someone you don't even know would call you up out of the blue and want to buy some tools which, in a couple of cases belonged to my grandfather, my dad, and my brother. The WHY? Because I've been diagnosed with...

How Beat The High Cost Of Fuel Randall Fishman, president of Electric Aircraft Corp., flew his ultralight trike at EAA Airventure 2007, Oshkosh. "I flew the trike in front of the crowds, and the trike was mobbed with people every day. The EAA folks really loved the idea." The ElectraFlyer won...

Professionally built? by es330td
I searched controller.com for lancair and found an entry that says "Professionally built." Now I know that a homebuilt owner does not have to build the entire thing themself but I thought it still had to be an amateur undertaking. How does this pass muster with the FAA?
