Good Used 4 Seaters by
Curt Fennell
Hi, Folks...
I've been recently researching aircraft that I might want to purchase
on a limited budget and I was wondering what the general consensus is
on inexpensive 4-seaters to own.
It seems to me that 4-seaters available in my price range are all
pretty old - Pacers, older 172s and Stinson...

Why is LOP (lean of peak) controversial? by
Andrew Gideon
I'm not asking about LOP itself, but why it's so "hot" snicker a topic.
It would seem to be a simple thing to me: the cylinders run at decent
temperatures LOP or they do not. What else is there?
I know at least one person in person, and others from their postings, that
are getting success...

Leaning Procedure for a Carbureted 182 by
Jeffrey
Greeting to all;
I own a 1964 Cessna 182 with a Continental O-470-R25 engine. This is
equipped with an E.I. 6 pt EGT gauge. Typical cruise power setting is 20"
manifold pressure 2300 RPM. I seem to have a plug fouling issue.

Overly restrictive business flying requirements. by
Wily Wapiti
Hello.
I thought I'd bounce these off the group and see what people
think. These are the UniRegs at the University of Wyoming for flying
your own or rented plane on University business. I feel, as a
low-time private pilot that they are overly restrictive, but I thought
I'd see what the sage...

New (old) bird by
Steven Barnes
Well my partners & I are officially broke, again. We picked up our 1966
Cherokee Six today. I got my checkout & gave 1 partner the beginning of his.
Compared to our 180, it's huge!
In a couple weeks we upgrade the panel.
One thing that amazes me is the power off sink rate. In the 180, you'd...

Some good news to my old friends here at rec.aviation by
Jay Honeck[_2_]
I'm not sure if there are any folks left here from "the Golden Age of
Rec.Aviation", but -- just in case -- I would like to share some great news
with y'all.
For those who don't know, back in 2002 members of this group were
instrumental with helping Mary and me decide to make the leap into an...

Hull/Liability Insurance Recommendations by
Jim Weir
The BlueOnBlue 182 is coming up for insurance (hull & liability) renewal in
about fifteen days. I'm very careful to get competitive quotes using the same
coverage. So far it is:
Phoenix $805
AIG $920
Global $939 (current carrier with no renewal discount)
Any suggestions on another quote that...

Do you own or are you planning to buy or build an aircraft that fits into
the Light Sport Aircraft rules? The airplane can be an older "factory"
certified airplane such as the Cub or Ercoupe, a new "factory" S-LSA or an
experimental that does or will comply with the LSA...

Fuel Drip Containment by
Jim Weir
Snarly Charlie, the 182, has the classic "Cessna drip" from the fuel vent when
the tanks are filled and the hangar gets warm. I've tried everything I know to
stop it, but all I can do with all the mechanical fixes is slow it down.
I'm getting ready to patch the asphalt under the drip and paint...

Engine Dependability by
O. Sami Saydjari
I talked to TCM today to register that I am the new owner of one of
their engines. Just in passing, I mentioned that their engine failed
recently within a few hundred hours after major overhaul. They seemed
completely uninterested in knowing this fact. I asked if they kept
actual statistics on...

Speedbrakes for a Bonanza: Opinions? by
Peter R.
With my Bonanza about to roll out of maintenance with its new
(overhauled) engine, I have been considering ways to preserve that
investment.
Recently, I came across an article discussing speedbrakes and was
wondering if anyone here has experience with speedbrakes in a small
aircraft.
I see the...

We got closer this time. We actually had our verbal offer accepted.
That's progress (for this, the 2nd offer we've made on an Arrow).
Things were going well into the weekend. I'd tweaked the prepurchase
agreement from the seller, made plane reservations to fly out and
see/fly/touch/smell the...

Yesterday, I attended a FAA safety seminar where the topic was

of the information posited here disagreed with what the FAA said. So, I
thought it would be...
