Sun-n-Fun by
[email protected]
How complicated is it to fly into Sun-n-Fun? I read the stories of
Oskosh and, as an 80 hour private pilot, I wouldn't touch that by air.
I fly out of Orlando executive, so Lakeland is only ~49 miles and I
think it would be cool to motor down for one day (maybe bring one or
both of my boys...

Cricri by
The Old Bloke[_4_]
I have some videos of the tiny Cricri aircraft, but all are of the petrol
engine version.
I know some have been fitted with R/C turbines, but can't find a video. I
have tried Google. I have seen some photos.
Any one know of a video?
Regards
Doug

airspace question by
michcio
In my area there is a C right next to D airspace.
After establishing radio contact with class C approach and the D
airspace being in my flight path, do I need to talk directly with
airspace D to get cleared through it, or is that all taken care of by
the approach controller?
Thanks.

lesson report by
Oz Lander[_2_]
The sky was pure blue for most of the morning, with not a breath of
wind, or a wisp of cloud to speak of. My flight was booked for 3pm, but
I called earlier, and was told I could fly at 2:30 if I wanted.
I arrived in time, and after general chit chat about how perfect the
weather was for flying, I...

FAA moved, left no forwarding address... by
Jay Honeck
We've been a chart agent for the FAA since we opened the hotel five
years ago. They bill us for charts sold every now and then, and I
have always sent payment to the National Aeronautic Charting Office in
Greenbelt, MD.
This month the check came back marked "Undeliverable -- No...

6 reasons why Palo Alto airport should go by
daffy
1. Small planes use leaded gasoline, which is more polluting than
autos and with over 600 landings and departures per day.... that is a
lot of lethal pollution.
2. There is always the eminent danger of a plane crash, one just
recently occurred and fortunately the plane landed in the marsh...

Bad Day at the office? by
EridanMan
Just saw this one on AVweb:
http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?ev_id=20070618X00759&key=1
Wow, someone was having a bad day at the office...
The obvious tower mistake is one thing, but I would also question the
judgement of the PIC of the second aircraft cleared... He really
should have been...

Low End Headsets by
William Bruce
I've lost my long time headset. (I know. No recriminations, please.) I'm
interested in recommendations for low end headsets (read "cheap"). Almost
all of my flights are puddlejumps here on Gulf coast, mainly sightseeing
jaunts of under an hour. Day long comfort is not a requirement. What...

Tacoma, WA - Narrows airport might be closing by
steve[_1_]
I just heard that they are considering closing down the Tacoma Narrows
Airport (KTIW) due to zoning and funding issues. This airport has been there
for a long time and it is a beautiful place to fly to. It would be a shame
to see it shut down. The other nearest airports to the Tacoma/ Gig Harbor...

Been taken over? by
Crash Lander[_1_]
I asked my instructor on the weekend what a pilot is expected to do, should
he come across a downed plane, or was in the vicinity on another plane that
was going down, or making a forced landing.
He said that you should tune to the relevant ATC frequency, and inform them
of what has/is...

Flight planning software minimization algorithm by
Andrew Sarangan
Most of the software out there will compute a flight based on the
user's route, time of departure and altitude. This is a fairly
straight forward task which could be done without a computer, as has
been the case for decades.
What I am looking for is the reverse. Given a destination, aircraft
type...

Handheld Transcievers by
Ken Spencer
Not sure if this is the best group to post this in, but I am trying to
decide between the Vertex 710 and the ICOM A-24 LilIon handheld
transcievers. Sporty's specs show the Verte as having a 15 hour
battery life, and the ICOM NiMh as 6 hours or so.
Do any of you have experience with either of...

Question for everyone, and it's a long shot, but I'll try
anyway!
I just happen to have Google Earth fired up and was looking at
my hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. I scrolled up a bit north of my

Pilot watch not a real EB6 by
BillJosephson
Hi. I am a bit confused. I saw this watch on Amazon and a reviewer
states it is not a real EB6:
"The E6-B rule bezel is incomplete, however operational. For a perfect
calculation, you must have a "mirror" of the main functions of the
rule bezel printed within the watch, just like any Jeppesen...

Garmin 296 by
Newps
I'm going to buy a 296 this week. Is there any reason not to buy a used
unit from these discount houses like JA Air Center? Did Garmin
improve the processor or make any changes that would make a new unit
preferable to a used unit?

Static Discharge by

Hi Folks,
Here's an interesting phenomenon I observed recently and I was
wondering if anybody else has seen anything like it.
About two weekends ago, I was doing a cross country in actual (IMC)
with one of my Instrument Rating students near Cheyenne, WY. We were
at 11,000ft for a while and the...

Power Supply in 98 C182S by
Dan[_1_]
All,
Our club is in the final stages of purchasing a 1998 Cessna 182S.
Much to my dismay, I noticed the lack of a 12-volt cigarette lighter
(or it's 24-volt equivalent) anywhere to be found. (am I just not
looking in the right place?)
What are the options here? How difficult and/or expensive...

What's on your OSH shopping list? by
Jay Honeck
Ours is:
- Art for our upcoming "Flying Tigers" and "Hawk" suites
- Three new windsocks (ours are all faded)
- A bunch of aviation movies (from that vendor in the Fly Market that
always has all those rare videos)
- Some interior plastic parts for Atlas.
- A new Oshkosh hat
An unusually short list...
