A Random Comment by
birdog[_2_]
Just got around to reviewing all the comments under "Simulators". I guess it
was inevitable that it ended up as disagreements with MX. While I don't want
to get involved with that dead end, I have had an experience that kind of
parallels.
As I mentioned before, after I lost my medical, I tried...

Bounced landing recovery? by
[email protected]
When I look at the NTSB reports it seems pretty often a bounced landing and
loss of directional control is cited as a cause of accidents. Many of the
pilots involved were highly experienced. My question is why isn't
recovery from bounced landings stressed more in private pilot training? ...

757 avionics by
FriarTuck
some questions if anyone knows the answers...
is 757 fly by wire or fly by cable?
The FMCS has full flight and landing capability, is it a separate control
system?
The FANS network, is it capable of directing "goto location/altitude" and
"set airspeed to K" type commands to the plane?

Simulators by
Birdog
The discussion on simulators was interesting in many aspects. Since being
grounded some 20 years ago (medical), I've tried substitutes - radio control
and computer simulators - and found them sorely lacking, if not downright
boring. However, while playing with the simulator, I could not help but...

Skydiving and FAA regs by
Ricky
I just got through watching several skydiving videos trying to
motivate myself to plunk down the money to continue my AFF jumps.
As a pilot/mechanic, I have continually been alarmed at the seeming
disregard for federal regulations in the sport, or are they?
Do jump planes operate under a waiver...

ATC Radar Question by
Jackie
I understand that ATC radar uses an encoding altimeter and a transponder
operating with Mode C to determine an aircraft's altitude. Let's forget
about Mode C for a moment and switch to Mode A only or just a primary
return.
If an aircraft is at 18,000 ft (approx 3 nm) and 3 nm away from the...

FAA grounds taunting banner plane by
Jim Logajan
The FAA sent inspectors to check on a plane that towed a taunting banner
and claimed it had a seatbelt issue, grounding it:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100409/ap_on_sp_go_ne/glf_masters_banner_plane
I'm glad to see that the FAA doesn't abuse their police powers when asked

Flying a private plane around the Caribbean in spring 2004 by
Klaus Bucka-Lassen
Hi everybody
We are two Danes and two Austrians who have thought of flying around
the Carribean for about a month in late winter/wpring 2004. Just from
looking at the map we figure it should be possible to do some loop
around the Caribbean Sea (Cuba - Haiti - Domenican Rep. - Puerto Rico
-...

T-34A by
Big John
Texas Air Aces, T-34A out of Hooks Airport north of Houston, crashed
this morning (Tuesday). Both in aircraft deceased.
Flight (two A/C) had not started air combat maneuvers per media and
did not have a mid air????? if you can believe the media. Other A/C
retured to Hooks and landed safely.
Sone...

Screwdrivered Security (a little long) by

OK... So I flew home from Tom Ridge airport in Erie, PA today.
I couldn't fly myself there because of weather (freezing rain, snow, ice
and such), so I took the bus (Airbus, that is)...
Anyway, flying out from LGA everything was smooth as silk. I fly
commercially enough to know the routine and...

Solar Battery Chargers by
Jay Honeck
I see these things available locally for around $40 bucks. They claim to be
able to recharge cell phones and laptops. They also say they're good for
trickle-charging vehicle batteries.
My thinking is that a solar charger would be great for Sun N Fun and
Oshkosh -- places where my cell phone (and...

Can a commercial pilot be hired to rent a plane and fly a journalist on a

which frequencies are all? by
Arden Prinz
I was approaching class C airspace for landing at the primary airport
for which the class C airspace is designated and I listened to the

TowerFrequency". So I tuned to TowerFrequency and made my radio
call to approach. The response that I...

"Where" is my destination? by
Ben Jackson
Leaving OAK I called ground and asked for flight following to 7S3
(which I gave by name and spelled phonetically). Later, while I'm
taxiing they come back with "where is that" and I couldn't imagine
how I could help them if the identifier didn't, so I came up with
"near McMinnville", which is both...
