Flying in South Africa by
AWG
Hallo everybody:
I am making plans for a flying tour (Cessna or Piper singles) in South
Africa and neighbouring countries.
The idea is to carry a folding muntain bike and a tent and visit the place.
As I've never been in South Africa I wonder if there's somebody among you
that could provide me...

Get-there-itis or getthereitis or gettheritis, anyway... by
Ricky
One time in my small flying career did I make a flight that I knew was
unsafe before & during the flight and in hindsight was idiotic (maybe
not to some) and could have been tragic if my Arrow's engine had
failed.
I was in Commercial/instrument training when I flew from San Antonio,
TX. to...

passed commercial written by
[email protected]
so i just passed the commercial written, and i hear that the CFI
written is half of the commercial written information, with the other
half being new material. Any reality to that?
I also have watched a few videos of fellow group members flying, and
wondering how many of you are running lean of...

Good Places To Fly? by
maflyboy
Has anyone found a good online resource for places to fly on the
internet? I have been using www.flyinggetaway.com and really like it
but they are primarily East coast based. They say they are growing it
to the entire country but it will take a little time.
I don't want to have to pay for anything...

Playboy Helicopter Aviator Provides Home Remodeling Opportunity by
JG
"KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -- The jarring sound a helicopter made when it
crashed into a suburban home left neighbors shaken and confused,
telling 911 operators they heard a loud noise and saw flames but
didn't know what had happened.
"There was loud crash, boom. I thought it was lightning," one...

Landing on the roads by
Lou
Quite a while ago I read somewhere that in certain areas of
some state the law permits landing on seldom used roads.
Any truth to this? Any printed materials on where and when?

25 Reasons You Might Be a Liberal by

25 Reasons You Might Be a Liberal
* You're sure the Constitution explicitly guarantees the
right to abortion and gay marriage, but not the right to own
a handgun.
* You think Dan Quayle is the dumbest Vice-President we ever
had because he believed a flash card that misspelled
"potato," but...

acronym for passenger safety instruction? by
virtuPIC
Recently I came across an acronym to remember what to tell your
passengers before departure. Somehow I remember something like
'SAFETY' - but I cannot find the place where to look up the meaning of
the letters. Could be somewhere in rec.aviation.*, could be in AOPA
Pilot magazine.
Anyone else...

Navigation problem by
Bob F.[_2_]
Here's a cute trivial problem I usually use to kill time with curious students.
There are places on the Earth where you can fly; 1 mile south, then 1 mile east (or west), and then 1 mile north, and end up in the same place. One of these places is the north pole. Where are the others?

Back to basics? by
Ol Shy & Bashful
When is the last time you really read the legend on your sectional or
WAC? Are you up to speed on changes for the different charts and what
they tell you? Could you pass a current check flight right now for all
the ratings you hold or brag about?

Great day for flying by
Viperdoc[_5_]
Ceilings 300OVC, took off and was in the soup within just a few seconds,
mild turbulence through the climb, adjusting pitch, power, props, cowl
flaps, and comms while climbing turning, and talking to ATC. Decided to hand
fly rather than rely on the autopilot. (Wouldn't want to lose an engine at...

Nexus program of any use flying? by
Paul kgyy
There's a $50 program to speed Canada/U.S. cross border transportation
for marine and highway use.
Is it of any value when flying across? Scuttlebutt is that flying
into Canada isn't any hassle but coming back into the U.S. can be a
real PITA.

Coupled Landing by
Tech Support
Rode thru my first coupled landing last week at SFO.
737-800, Wx 100 ft & 1/8 mile forecast in Bay Area Fog.
I never saw ground before we touched down. Pilot said he only touched
controls after rolling down R/W and he went into reverse thrust with
engines.
Touch down was smoother than VFR Pilot...
