Arrow auto gear extension oddness by
Roy Smith
I was on a training flight a few days ago in a 180 HP Arrow. I was
demonstrating pitch stability. We were trimmed for straight and level
cruise (something like 23 inches and 2300 RPM at 3500 feet) when I
pushed us over into a dive, letting the airspeed climb well up into the
yellow arc.
Here's...

Replace (Fix) ADF? by
Tom Nery
My '66 Cherokee 180C currently has a T12C ADF. Even though it has analog
tuning, the previous owner installed a Davitron digital frequency
read out so it's not as bad to tune as you'd think.
Anyway, it now longer points to the NDB (actually the needle never moves)
but can successfully tune am...

If there were 25 million active GA pilots... by
Dan Luke
....in the USA instead of 400,000 or so:
There would be GA airports *everywhere*. They would be like beehives on the
day before Thanksgiving.
You could rent a T hangar for less than the cost of a 1 br apartment.
The accident rate would be about the same but the fatal accident rate would
be lower...

Piper Rudder Pedal Pads by
Mike Spera
Thought I would spruce up the old bird with a new set of rudder pedal
pads. I have seen several planes where they have either tie-wrapped them
on or, worse yet, SCREWED them on.
Looking in the ol' Piper parts inventory I see that they are WHAT!!!!!
$84.39 EACH!!! Ah, yes. The old "Aviation...

Good Used 4 Seaters by
Curt Fennell
Hi, Folks...
I've been recently researching aircraft that I might want to purchase
on a limited budget and I was wondering what the general consensus is
on inexpensive 4-seaters to own.
It seems to me that 4-seaters available in my price range are all
pretty old - Pacers, older 172s and Stinson...

Service Manual for Beechcraft A23 Musketeer by
Robert Little
I found a listing of the 19,23,24 at www.esscoaircraft.com/noname30.html
and that address will bring up the order page at a cost of $35. I've dealt
with them over the years and have been able to trade manuals for manuals in
some cases. The do a fairly good job. Hope this helps. Robert...

Options After Items Flagged as Unairworthy (was TBO and Airworthiness) by
JB
(I decided to move this to a separate thread since its a bigger issue
than engine TBO.)
Matt...I read the Avweb article. The author correctly notes that
whether its a car or plane, you should always insist on seeing or
discussing the problems with the mechanic so there are no surprises
later....

Have you ever flown\owned a Mooney? by
[email protected]
Hi there
I am a '78 Grumman Tiger owner here who is toying with trading up to a
Mooney. Not sure which one, perhaps a 201 for starters or maybe a 231.
My question to the group is "have you ever flown or own a Mooney?" What
are your thoughts about its reputation for being a "cozy" fit and...

Cherokee 140 Oil Temp Creeping Up by
Mike Spera
I have owned this Cherokee 140 since 1994. I have logged over 1000 hours
in it through the original and the now installed overhauled engine. Oil
temps were usually at 180 degrees (both engines)when OATs were between
50-80 degrees or so. It would read 1 needle mark higher when it got to
be 95+...

Composite Aircraft in the long term... by
Jay Honeck
Okay, so Cirrus is cooking along at 60 aircraft per month. They're selling
everything they can build, and people who have bought them are ecstatic.
Fast forward to the year 2018. What's going to be happening to these
composite beauties?
Reason for asking: A long discussion with some pilots who...

Piper Colt child seat STC by

I have been toying around with the idea of buying a Colt or a
Tri-Pacer (having just foolishly sold my Ercoupe) and ran across an ad
for a Colt with a child seat STC.
I did a google search, a deja/google group search (on rec.aviation)
and looked at the Short wing Piper web site and found nothing...

Adjustment driver for King VOR head by
Robert M. Gary
My #2 VOR is the older analog King head feed by a KX-170B. It likes to
get out of adjustment. The local radio shop has told me I should get
the screw driver and adjust it myself off the VOT. If you remove the
set screw that holds the knob on, there is an adjustment screw behind
it. However, the...

Engine Data Plate by

Hi,
I've got one question. Is it possible to check what is the serial number of
an engine if the engine data plate is suspected not to be a true one ? I
want to buy a Cessna 150 but the data plate looks a little bit strange and I
am not sure if it is correct.
Can you advise me the way to check it...

Anyone installed a landing light flasher? by
Mike Noel
I like the visibility of the flashing landing light...they really get your
attention. The Pulsar unit sold by Spruce for about $320 (single light,
mosfet, variable speed) is the only one I've seen advertised. They say 30
minute install for an under panel mount. They also say you simply need...
