Engine Recomendations by
f
Today was not a good day for the Baron. While replacing a cylinder I found
a crack (confirmed with Dye Pent) off the #5 cylinder leading up towards the
case halves.
The engine has 2750 Hr since new and about 1000 Hr since a TW Smith
overhaul. The case is repairable, but it seems like a waste...

Used Avionics by
Jon Kraus
Our 2nd Nav/Com on our '79 201 is a KX170B. It has went on the fritz and
will cost .7 AMU's to repair. We were looking to maybe replace it with
a KX155 (14 volt), preferably w/o the glidescope. Does anyone have an
idea on where we might find one for a reasonalble price? Any advise
would be...

fuel monitor by
Tri-Pacer
I'm leaning towards installing a fuel flow monitor.
Either the JPI FS 450 or the Shadin Microflo-L Since I have only a 2 1/4
hole open I've kind of settled on one of these two.
Any comments pro or con?
Thanks
Paul

TKM Anyone? by
Jon Kraus
As stated earlier we are looking to replace our KX-170B (our 2nd
NAV/COM). As I was doing some research I stumbled across the TKM MX-170
http://www.avionix.com/rev-tkm.html
On the surface this looks like a pretty good deal (1.5 AMU's new). I
talked to a gentleman at Pacific Coast Avionics and he...

Add auto pilot to '65 Cherokee 180 by
Steven Barnes
Looking for opinions on adding a wing leveler to a Cherokee 180. Something
simple just hooked to a heading bug would help me & my partners with our IFR
ratings we got last year.
What kind of cost / weight is involved? Is it more hassle than what it's
worth?

"Bounce" those bugs away... by
A Lieberman
We get a ton of "love bugs" down here in my part of the world. I don't
know the scientific name for these things, but they sure do make a mess of
anything in their flight path.
A co-worker of mine said that Bounce dryer sheets will help you clean the
bugs. I figured, nothing to lose, if it's...

Quick drain mess. by
dlevy
I have a newly overhauled engine. Previously, I had a quick drain with a
barb connector to allow using a hose to drain the oil in a bucket. I just
stuck a lenght of garden hose on the barb and opened it up.
I now have this quick drain that has no barb connection. I don't see any
threads to put...

Whelen lights by
[email protected]
I was just curious about ya'lls experience with Whelen lights on your
aircraft. The reason I'm asking is that I work at the USA's largest
firetruck manufacturer and I deal with Whelen lights daily. My experience
with Whelen lights on firetrucks is that while they tend to be
technologically...

Got any EAA Oshkosh memorabilia? by
Jay Honeck
In the next few weeks we'll be opening our 16th aviation theme suite
(the "Apollo Suite" -- all 1960s NASA moon flight stuff -- with many
thanks to this group's own Jim Weir) -- and the next one will be our
"Oshkosh Suite" -- one that will be near and dear to EAA member's
hearts, I'm sure!
We're...

Simple Sledgehammer Fix by
Bret Ludwig
Simple fix for all GA problems:
Extend Part 103 to 1250 lbs.
Think about it. Oh yes, there would be problems. But keep the
government's ass off people long enough for enough screwballs, fundie
redneck morons, and maybe some protected minorities (Sprewells for
Cleveland wheel assemblies may help)...

Folding wing for Ercoupes? by
Montblack
Fix the high cost High Cost of Sportplanes
"Any mass produced successful sport aircraft today ought to have
folding wings, whether it's trailered or if it goes in a community
hanger. There is a folding wing mod for the venerable Ercoupe (it's
STC'd or their equivalent in Canada, I'm not sure...

Replacement Cabin Speaker for Cessna? by
John Clonts
Anybody know where to get a replacement cabin speaker other than
Cessna? They want $110 for it!
This is for a Cessna 210M. The speaker has 4 terminals. Two of them
are wired to ground. One of the others is from the audio output, and
the other is from the stall and landing gear horn...

1 1/8" Piper Bow Tie Yokes FS by
Mike Spera
Changed out the bow ties for rams horns (at last). Now I have 2 bow ties
in good condition with pins, spacers and late model medallions (3
color). All you need is 2 new cotter pins. Seems like $200 for both is
fair. Takes about 15 minutes to swap them out. If nobody from the group
wants them, off...

Narco Com 120 FS by
Mike Spera
Finally found an 810+/r to replace the Com 120. Since I bought Jay's
unit as a spare when he did the same thing, I now have 2 120s. Anyone
interested in buying one of these? Considering offers over $200 +
shipping for one of the units. If nobody from the group wants it, it
goes on...

Turbo engine maintenance by
John Doe
I'm in the market to purchase a turbo aircraft...(specifically a 1979 Turbo
Lance)
Can someone tell me their experience with the engine maintenace in relation
to having to top overhaul the cylinders? I've heard from some owners that
you should only expect about 800 or so hours on the cyliners...
