About the Hiroshima justification threads by
Jughead
I haven't wasted even a second bothering to read any of the messages in
those threads, but I just have a couple of questions:
1. Who gives a **** whether or not it was truly justified? What person
living today can say they really had jack **** to do with an executive
decision made nearly 60 years...

BUFDRVR - about new squadron structure by
Jughead
I didn't want to hijack the "Joining the USAF" thread with somthing
unrelated, so I'll start a new thread to respond to something you wrote
over there.
As of 1 OCT 2002 you are correct, kind of.. There are now Ops Squadrons
and Maintenance Squadrons. I'll pleade ignorance on how they've got...

Jukka O. Kauppinen
Was travelling in train and reading the Finnish book about Brewsters.
Thought to make a short list of the most successful Brewsters in Finnish
service - might give some good food for though:
Brewster (Finnish serial) - number of aerial victories - total hours
flown - pilots and their personal...

Me 110 aces by
Jukka O. Kauppinen
Haven't found good info on the net and I'm not willing to spend money to
get books on this matter right now...
So. I wonder if anyone could shed some info on the Messerschmitt 110
aces. I'd be interested in the pilots who were successfull especially in
the 1939-1941 timeline in the west and/or...

Fetching the Hurricanes - new articles by
Jukka O. Kauppinen
When Winter War started, with Soviet Union's attack against the tiny
Finland, Finnish government started seeking for equipment and aircraft
from any plane and country that would sell.
"Calle: Let's review the general situation at first. Finland was a poor
country, so we couldn't buy proper flight...

Has there ever been an off-center gun? by
Jukka O. Kauppinen
Wouldn't a gun pointed at a downward angle make ground attack easier?
Many ground attack aircraft have had such configuration, including IL-2.
Not all of them, but in remarkable numbers anyway.

Development of British cannon ammuniation during WW2 by
Jukka O. Kauppinen
What was the timetable for British development for their 20 mm cannon
ammuniation during WW2?
I'm aware that RAF tried to install first cannons to Spit Is but this
was initially a failure. Early Spit V models were introduced with 60
round supply to the Hispanos, later with 120 rounds per gun. Some...

Modern aces by
Jukka O. Kauppinen
Associate asked interesting question.
Is there any kind of listing of "modern" jet aces? And are any of those
in service today?
I'd guess best bet are the Israelis. Elsewhere some are from Vietnam
(US, Vietnam, Russian?) and what else?
There was air to air fighting at Eritrean-Etiopian war but...

Looking for helicopter audio – MI-4 engine
A Finnish team of aviation historicians and enthusiasts is putting up a
display of the Soviet built MI-4 helicopter for an aviation museum display.
They have a short movie, shot in the 1970s by a MI-4 pilot, which will
be used. The black/white film...

Night of the bombers - the most daring special mission of Finnish
bombers in WW2
I thougth this might be of interest, as it is quite precisely 60 years
from these missions, so I hastily wrote a little article combining
material from a few sources.

F-4 vs S-3..."sea story" or 17 Nov 83 TAF Losses by
Juvat
Yesterday I was flying with a former S-3 "Hoover" guy...he told a "sea
story" where a pair of Allied F-4s and an S-3 were hassling over the
Med. He thought they were Greek.
Anyway...the story basically has the S-3 heading toward the water in a
steep dive (evasive maneuver) with both F-4s in...
