Get Rid Of Warbirds At Oshkosh by
RST Engineering
I'm prejudiced. Of course I'm prejudiced. In 5000+ flight hours, I've
never come as close to a midair as I did at Oshkosh 1999. Oshkosh Tower:
"BlueOnBlue Cessna, number three for runway 27. Ercoupe put it on the
numbers. Flight of three T6s, cross over runway 27, right downwind for
runway...

Questions for you glass-panel folks by
Jay Honeck[_2_]
So we've been flying our new "Penguin" -- our brand-new 2-place simulator --
during Movie Night at the Inn (see it he
http://www.alexisparkinn.com/flight_simulator.htm ), and last night we
started "flying" the G1000-equipped Mooney for the first time.
No one in the room (and there was...

OSH '05 Comments by
PPT33R
Another great OSH. The number and quality of the exhibits seems to
improve each year. I especially like the Miller Welding trailer. My
girlfriend even got to play with the plasma cutter, and she liked it
(maybe helping me justify a future purchase ;-)...
We met the MotoArt guys (from the now...

Oshkosh arrivals by
[email protected]
My wife and I drove down from our home in Appleton to Oshkosh today (Sunday
the 23rd) for a few hours to watch arrivals. We saw the first Cessna 172
land and we were at AeroShell Square to see them pull it onto the display
ramp. Way cool! On my scanner we heard some guy in a Cessna 180...

Devastation in Iowa City Tonight by
Jay Honeck
So I was at our airport commission meeting tonight when the tornado
sirens went off. We had noticed the skies becoming black, but were all
too wrapped up in talk of paving taxiways to pay much heed.
The meeting abruptly adjourned with the sirens, and everyone tried to
find the long-rumored...

Class B busted...My problem or the controller's ? by
Antoņio
Today I flew into KBFI (Boeing field) which is class D and has
extentions that underlie the Class B that require close attention to
altitudes and headings so as to stay clear. Today the winds were
favoring 31L (and 31R) and I came in from the west on the Vashon
approach--the most common approach...

Beacons/anticollision lights and engines by
Mxsmanic
I understand that one normally turns on beacons or anticollision
lights whenever an aircraft's engines are running. Is this a
regulation, or just a polite custom?

help if you can.
Thanks for everything.

Will the new government have any effect on GA? by
Andrew Sarangan
My voting decision was influenced in large part on which candidates
supported GA. I called each candidate's office and asked for their
views on GA and ATC privatization.
I was wondering what people think about how GA will be affected by the
new government, on things like ATC privatization, user...

I Will Never Understand Wind by
Jay Honeck
Today, for the first time in weeks, dawned clear, cool, and calm. After a
VERY early spring (with temps in the 80s for over a week), we have
experienced extremely high winds and record COLD temps. In fact, we broke
the record here on both Sunday and Monday... (Take THAT all you "global
warming"...

Steering on the taxiway by
Mxsmanic
Is it better to use just the rudder or differential braking to turn on
taxiways? I understand that steering mechanisms vary considerably
from one aircraft to another, but I'm still curious. In this case,
I'm wondering about a Baron 58, the aircraft I fly in my sim (most of
the time).
I note when...

Real stats on engine failures? by
Captain Wubba
Howdy. I was discussing with a friend of mine my concerns about flying
single-engine planes at night or in hard IFR, due to the possibility
of engine failure. My buddy is a CFI/CFII/ATP as well as an A&P, about
3500 hours, and been around airplanes for a long time, so I tend to
give credence to his...

I made another flight to KFTG this afternoon and periodically checked
the GPS receiver provided altitude versus my aircraft altimeter. GPS

certainly within...
