So Who Has More Military Command Experience, Bush Or Kerry? by
W. D. Allen Sr.
Kerry had a total of four months experience commanding a patrol boat as part
of the brown water navy in Vietnam thirty years ago.
Bush has over two and a half years (and counting) experience commanding the
most lethal military force ever seen in the history of man!
So who actually has the most...

Twenty Four Hour Spad Missions by
W. D. Allen Sr.
Just curious.
In 1958 a friend of mine in Airgroup Nineteen said that some of his VA-195
AD squadron mates had SIOP missions as long as twenty four hours during our
WestPac deployment. He claimed to have flown a fifteen hour SIOP training
mission. He also said they carried four different types of...

Question For Old Naval Aviators by
W. D. Allen
Just finished Jim Armstrong's book, "From POW to Blue Angel", about
Commander Dusty Rhodes, who introduced the Blue Angels to jets. Interesting
book, especially for old naval aviators.
But, here's a question for tail hookers of half a century ago. On page 282
Armstrong writes, "...a Twin Beech...

An Old Carrier Aircraft Mystery Solved? by
W. D. Allen
On 23 December, 1956, an FJ-3 Fury fighter plane was launched from the U. S.
S. Shangri La while operating south of Japan. The FJ-3 did not follow
normal departure procedures - instead it continued flight with it's landing
gear and flaps still down while slowly banking left as the plane turned...

WestPac Deployments by
W. D. Allen
Recently during a discussion about WestPac carrier airgroup deployments the
question came up about how many carrier deployments occurred between the end
of WWII in 1945 and about 1965 when the VN War started. Any one know where
this kind of data might be available?

Round Engines by
Voxpopuli
DEDICATED TO ALL WHO FLEW BEHIND ROUND ENGINES
We gotta get rid of those turbines, they're ruining aviation and our
hearing...
A turbine is too simple minded, it has no mystery. The air travels through
it in a straight line and doesn't pick up any of the pungent fragrance of
engine oil or pilot...

?? Marine boot camp question ?? by
vincent p. norris
My son-in-law, who was in the Navy about 30 years ago, mentioned at
dinner today that the guy who graduated #1in his platoon at Marine
boot camp was given a set of blues, free.
I think that's an urban legend. It certainly wasn't the case when I
went through Parris Island in 1946.
Was it done at...
