QF-14 by bob urz
Why did not the US turn the F14 into QF14 drones rather than just cut them up? How many F14's are left in the bone yard? I see there are plans for QF-16's when the F4 supply runs low. bob

question about practice bomb by boelke
I recently came across a tiny practice bomb. It looks similar to a MK-76 (BDU-33 for the airforce types) except it is much smaller. It is about 8 inches long and weighs about 3 pounds. Although it has not aged well, I believe the marking is 'AN MK 23 MOD 1'. It has the standard hole down the...

This News Group by Boomerang
I'm surely not the Senior Naval Aviator (remember that? "SNA"?) attending to this News Group although I may be the among the oldest - first carrier landing on March 17, 1954 - and I wonder, seriously, if the cross-posters realize what a disservice (read pain-in-the-ass) they are to those of us...

Ready Room Ditty Lyrics by Boomerang
Anybody remember the words to the Ready Room Ditty about the unfortunate Naval Aviator who didn't quite get aboard, but "the Pratt and Whitney Man said it couldn't be the engine 'cause the @#$ @#% things don't QUIT!" etc. etc. What preceeds and what follows? Anybody? Long time ago, I know....

Indonesian Bawean Island Incident (2 F-16B vs 5 F/A-18s) by Bram U. Kusuma
Hi All, I'd like to know more information about last month's (August) alleged Indonesian Airspace violation by VFA-22 Hornets. What I know so far is that 5 F/A-18s on a CAP strayed into Commercial airspace, got too close to a Bouraq 737, the pilot of which reported the incident to the...

F-14 on the History Channel's "Modern Marvels" by Brian J. McCann
A couple of night ago the History Channel aired a program about the F-14. During the promo it was stated that the Tomcat is the world's fastest fighter. I dunno, every aviation book in my house puts it clearly behind the F-15 and the MiG 25. Also, the program stated that the Shah of Iran ordered...

prefix for Flightplan callsigns for the Russian Navy by Brian Smith
I am not referring to tactical callsigns, like REACH or Olympus. I want to know about the prefix they use in filing flight plans in international air space using ATC. When the Russian Navy flies, do they use a particular prefix? When the U.S. Navy flies we see VVxxxx, Marine Corps, I see...
