Dress blues needed by volunteer by
John Miller
In retirement, I've begun playing Taps at veterans' funerals, under the
auspices of Bugles Across America (http://www.buglesacrossamerica.org).
Seeking a used set of Navy officer dress blues, coat size 44-46 and trousers
38-40.
Please note that my return email address will not work; the correct...

Double-knit dress blues? by
John Miller
Not exactly the right group, but someone here will know, so I beg your
indulgence.
When I resigned my commission in the 1970s, double-knit dress blues were
authorized.
Recently, I began playing taps at military funerals as a volunteer, and
learned that wartime veterans are authorized (DOD...

Any opinions about this book about F-8s in Vietnam? by
John Randolph
Actually, the F-4 had a higher kill ratio. It was a Navy F-4 that shot down
the first MIG and no F-8 guy ever achieved "ACE" status. Having posted that
fact I must admit that most of us who flew the F-4 are not particularly fond
of Randy "Airhead" Cunningham.
And always remember, never forget,...

Hornet down @ RDU, pilot OK by
John S. Shinal
F-18 lost power during takeoff at Raleigh NC's RDU airport,
and ended up in a burning pile beside runway 2L - pilot ejected OK,
apparently unhurt.
Hornet is still burning like hell, despite a huge amout of
foam, no injuries on the ground, and a few airliners have taken off
since the accident.

Will Marine VMFA squadrons continue deploying in CVNs with JSF ? by
John S. Shinal
In a recent thread on F-35 variants, I noticed that the Marine
Corps version doesn't appear to be CTOL for carrier ops, rather STOVL.
Will Marine squadrons eventually operate in the STOVL regime
from big decks, or what ?
Will JSF be a plane for plane, squadron for squadron swap with
both Harrier...

STOVL and CTOL from big decks - deconflicting ? by
John S. Shinal
I'm merely an amateur observer, but it looks like there are a
couple of issues.
Deployment to theater - means one fewer USN CTOL squadrons
aboard the carrier once in theater. This might not be a big deal if
you are mostly tasked with CAS for Marines, but for a large campaign
using two CVNs, would...
