I was browsing Google maps when I came across this image at Edwards
AFB:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=34+N+119+W&ie=UTF8&ll=34.89991,-117.870474&spn=0.003968,0.010192&t=h&z=18
At the center of the photo is an aircraft with what appears to be an

I'm not terribly familiar with aircraft types.
I'm curious if the lighting configuration ( 3 lights) on this fedex plane is typical ?

Ancient VOR Transmitter ?? by
[email protected]
I recently received this large single-frequency transmitter
from an elderly gentleman who used to be a ham radio operator.
I have not been able to pin down exactly what it is. Some
folks have given the opinion that it may be an old VOR transmitter.
I'm wondering if someone can identify it? Give...

Rechargable AA batteries and chargers by
TripFarmer
I use a lot of AA batteries and have used Alkalines for a while. I've even
bought the 40 for $10 at Sam's Club and I've bought the Energizer e2 batteries,
which are really good. The Sam's ones I'd just throw away if they got close
to being dead.
I finally bit the bullet and did some research. ...

ANR squeal on descent by
Juan Jimenez
Somebody explain to me why ANR headsets squeal when you are descending from
FL180 and lower in an unpressurized aircraft. Flightcom is modifying their
Denalis to deal with this but they say all ANR's do this.

Question for business jet pilots, movie S.W.A.T. by
Jeffrey
Hi folks. A question, if I may.
In the film "S.W.A.T.", a commandeered Learjet is descending for a landing
on a bridge. The pilot or copilot is going through checklists and he says,
"Go to 'forty percent flaps.' "
I'm a private pilot, and I use DEGREES of flaps (10, 20, or 30 -- and once,
in a...

Vapor Lock by
Dale
For you guys flying injected engines.
I'm flying a Cessna P206C with the Continental IO-520. It quite often
will quit on rollout after landing. I'm being told that it is probably
vapor lock causing an interruption in fuel flow. I'm not convinced.
The ambient temps are in the 60s to 70s. The...

Can a Grumman Goose use normal marine/auto gas? by
togx
For purposes of a fiction novel I'm working on, I need to know if an old Grumman Goose could use fuel found at a marine refilling pier (mogas = auto gas, not diesel) instead of the usual avgas. It is only needed for one trip (not permanently) and hopefully not cause "major" damage to the P&W...
