$7.42/gallon avgas by
M
The Airnav fuel report says the highest avgas price in the country
right now is $7.42.
http://www.airnav.com/fuel/report.html
It didn't take long to find out where. Atlantic Aviation at Teterboro
(http://www.airnav.com/airport/KTEB). $7.42 a gallon, that's
breathtaking!

Reading back altimeter settings? by
Paul Tomblin
Does anybody have a good handle on when ATC wants you to read back
altimeter settings? On a single IFR flight on Tuesday, I encountered
several controllers who I'd check in with, and they'd give me an altimeter
setting, and that would be it, and 2 (both in Canada, BTW) whom when I
didn't read back...

Two 14 year old boys steal plane and then crash by
John Doe
More great press for GA airport security.
//////////
Two 14-year-old boys from Big Bear are doing OK tonight. Police say they
suffered minor injuries after stealing an airplane from the Big Bear Airport
and crash-landing it in Joshua Tree National Park last night.
The boys' apparent joy-ride...

Rotation by
Mxsmanic
Do real aircraft abruptly pitch upward on take-off during rotation, or
is this an artifact of my simulator? I find that I must put the stick
forward slightly as soon as the nose rises, or I risk a tail strike.
This is especially true on small aircraft, such as the Baron 58.
Large jets seem to do...

Flight wrench question by
R.H.
I've got a flight wrench marked Duz-all, and was hoping someone could tell
me exactly what it was used for. There is a slot on the bottom and what
looks to be a screwdriver on the other end. It's number 696, the first tool
on this page:

Airplane in NYC is a Cirrus SR20 by
A. Sinan Unur
CNN is reporting that the pilot was a Yankee's pitcher: Lidle. He
apparently got his license only 7 months ago. Bragged about how safe his
plane was. I have a feeling this is similar to JFK junior's case of not
knowing one's limitations.

What's minimum safe O2 level? by
PaulH
I took my Arrow up to 10,500 today to check out my fingertip O2
measuring device. I can maintain 90-93% saturation with deep
breathing and no supplemental O2. Anybody know what the minimum safe
level is for daytime? I guess it might be cumulative, i.e. the longer
you go at 92% the less safe it...

Issues around de-ice on a 182 by
Andrew Gideon
One of the members of my club has proposed that we add TKS de-ice to our two
182s. Apparently, such a system is to become available later this year.
My reaction at first was negative. After all, in our near-NYC location, the
utility of such a tool is limited to a few months a year. Surely we...

Silly controller by
Robert M. Gary
The other day I was doing a VFR practice approach into Tracy, CA when
the controller told me "reporting canceling IFR this freq, or on ground

was IFR" (because I hadn't asked for or received an IFR clearance).
The controller...

Crab, slips, and crossed controls by

Hey,
Some of you may have heard of Air Canada 143 http://www.youtube.com/

an emergency descent at velocities way above the normal limits. The
pilot's makeshift technique was to engage a sideslip to decelerate the
aircraft (which...
