Time to revamp traffic patterns at non-towered airports? by
Ace Pilot
The FAA is expecting to publish its final rule covering Light Sport
Aircraft, Sport Pilots, and the training and repair requirements
sometime this year. I'm wondering what impact this rule will have on
traffic pattern operations at non-towered airports.
Most non-towered airports have a single...

Smithsonian museum at Dulles by
Robert M. Gary
I tried to go to the museum at the Dulles airport today. Boy, they do a
good job of hidding that little gem. D.C. easily has the worst roads
for visitors in any city in any country I've ever visited. It is very
hard to find things...
1) Many roads have formal names as well as common names. The map...

Shafted by the Transport Canada? by
[email protected]
This morning I received a letter from Transport Canada informing me I
am being fined $250 for not filing a flight plan. I had flown from
Minot, ND to Regina, Canada on July 30, 2005. I had meticulously
planned the flight using the AOPA webpage on the subject (got all the
radio station permits,...

What essentials do you always have on board? by
Mxsmanic
What things do you consider it essential to always have on board for
every flight? Not just things required by law, but things that you
personally believe in having on the aircraft before you leave the
ground.

Self fly hire in the US by
Nigel
I am from the UK and I'm visiting the US for my summer vacation this year
and plan to do some flying from a flying school in Naples Florida. I have a
UK and US license and all I want is a bi-annual/check ride and then rent a
plane for a couple of trips around the general area, maybe even venture...

Commercial rating: complex aircraft required aircraft for practical test? by
Marc J. Zeitlin
So after getting my instrument rating in my COZY last April, I'm
starting to think about getting my commercial rating. I realize that
per FAR 61.129 (a)(3)(ii) I need to have 10 hours in a complex aircraft
(flaps, retracts, CS prop), which my COZY doesn't have, so I'll have to
take that 10 hours...

Flying to Texas...recommendations? by
Jay Honeck
We're hoping to depart for Fredericksburg, Texas (T82) next Sunday, to
pay a visit to the Hangar Hotel -- the only other aviation themed
hotel in the country (that we know of).
Fredericksburg itself sounds very neat, and we'll spend a day or two
there, but the kids want WARM weather -- and so do...

Hand propping - licensed pilot at the controls? by
TRA
Is there an FAR or other document (Advisory Circular etc.)
that addresses whether a licensed pilot must be at the
controls ofthe aircraft being started when it is hand
propped? I know the FAA may hit the pilot with careless and
reckless if it gets away, but is it legal to tie the tail
down and...

Fun weekend buying an Arrow (long) by
Jack Allison
A few more details on my Arrow buying adventure this weekend. Sorry, no
pictures posted yet but I did send a couple to Jay H. for an appropriate
update (as in "Jay, could you do me a favor and replace the picture of
the rental C-172 with pictures of much nicer airplane").

Give Me A GOOD Reason by
[email protected]
Can anyone give me a good logical reason to spend so much money to fly
airplanes or helicopters for private use? After more than 50 years I'll
be damned if I can come up with one. But I still do and probably will.
WHY?????

On Anonymity, Moderated Fora, and Usenet by
Michael[_1_]
I'm seeing a lot of people leaving usenet quite publicly, in favor of
a moderated forum, because the signal to noise ratio on the group has
become so poor. This is of course their right and decision. I don't
intend to follow them, and that of course is mine. I will, however,
point out some major...

How do you get passengers over the fear of flying? by
Gerald Sylvester
I recently got my PPL and find that most people are scared sh*tless to
go up. One friend came along and was just blown away and had a ton
of fun. Just about everyone else is "oh my god, I am so scared
of airplanes." This weekend I was going to go with my CFI to celebrate
my passing my checkride...

The next attack (On Topic) by
Roger Long
Why is this on topic for this forum? Face it, even if the next terrorist
action is carried out with trained hamsters marching down 42 ND street with
little explosive backpacks, shutting down general aviation will be a
centerpiece of the response.
Those of us in aviation have followed the security...
