acronym for passenger safety instruction? by
virtuPIC
Recently I came across an acronym to remember what to tell your
passengers before departure. Somehow I remember something like
'SAFETY' - but I cannot find the place where to look up the meaning of
the letters. Could be somewhere in rec.aviation.*, could be in AOPA
Pilot magazine.
Anyone else...

Notice at the end is the history of airlines now.

En route altitudes and safety by
a[_3_]
A recent thread reminded me it might be worth discussing an personal
flying practice. When en route, as a way of reducing the likelihood
of a midair by about a binary order of magnitude (that's a factor of
two for the non mathematically inclined) I fly the nominal altitude
less 100 feet VFR, or...

Father/son day at the airport by
Dave J
I made it to the airport for the first time since my son (first child)
was born in May. I did a little PAO-WVI-E16 loop by myself.
I couldn't help but notice that a lot of the Sunday flyers were father/
son or father/daughter teams. Perhaps that's how it's always been, I
just hadn't noticed it...

RAP is NOT Dead by
No Name
I, for one, do not think this newsgroup is dead. It has had and continue to
have hiccups. After reading almost all of the posts in this group, here is
what I have gathered.
1. There are those among us who don't have a full knowledge of aviation
related matters.
2. There are those among us...

Bertie's Supporters and Sockpuppets - Vol 6 by
Englebert
Interesting, in the past week Bertie the Buttlipp has posted 20% of the
message on this group.
85% of those messages were cross posted to kook group, apparently soliciting
noise.
72% were nothing but insults, attempts to stimulate an argument.
43% were off topic conversations with the troll...

Poll - Dumb****s by
Ol Shy & Bashful
I'd vote for myself but I'm not a dumb****. Aggravating sometimes but
certainly not dumb. Who is your favorite? Seems to be a paucity of on
topic posts of late and more time spent on slamming people with the
insults born of the Simpson's era or is it Dr Suess?

Navigation problem by
Bob F.[_2_]
Here's a cute trivial problem I usually use to kill time with curious students.
There are places on the Earth where you can fly; 1 mile south, then 1 mile east (or west), and then 1 mile north, and end up in the same place. One of these places is the north pole. Where are the others?

Choosing destinations by
Mxsmanic
When you fly for pleasure, how do you select your destination for a flight?
How long a flight do you prefer, ideally? How close do you remain to your
home base (if any)? And do you prefer to fly alone, or do you like to have
passengers? In the latter case, whom do you usually bring along?
Also,...
