OT (sort of): CBS revisited by
C J Campbell
Now the FCC is investigating CBS for broadcasting obscene material.
BWAHAHAHA!
I guess exposing a breast is obscene, but inciting the public to violence
against airplanes and pilots is not. I know! We will disguise all our
airports as unmentionable body parts, and CBS will never be able to do...

Problems in a commercial flight by
megaMAX
Hello everybody,
I want to tell you what's happened during a Finnair flight from
Helsinki to Milan, I'm not an expert of flight.
During the entire flight, I noticed that the aircraft was continuosly
rolling to right, and the pilot was correcting every 10-20 seconds the
attitude. I noticed this,...

A Level 1 AOA clarification by
Ramapriya
If my understanding is correct, an aircraft stalls beyond that AOA
which, when increased any further, produces no (further) lift. If
correct, would it be logical to infer that an aircraft's stalling AOA:
a. is dependent on its airspeed, and is independent of its weight and
weight distribution,...

Headsets: "Minimum Advertised Price" by
Will Thompson
Just about all of the major (USA) pilot shops on the web use a "minimum
advertised price" for headsets. The actual price for a popular headset,
such as Lightspeed or David Clark are not readily available on the
website. Instead you only find out the real price after actually
ordering or requesting...

Bad fuel gauges? by
WingFlaps
Hi all,
A recurring theme seems to be that one should should not rely in fuel
gauges. I can understand that from a safety point of view (I always
dip the tank before start), but I get the feeling that they are
considered just plain inaccurate. Why is that, every car I've driven
has a fuel gauge...

Anyone got an FCC radio license by
Robert M. Gary
Has anyone here bothered to get the FCC radio license? I've been going
down to Mexico for awhile and have never heard of anyone down there
ever being asked for one (the officials in Mexico don't even know what
it is).
Has anyone ever heard of anyone being asked for it in Canada?
I'm just wondering...

Does your airport WiFi? by
john smith
I just added a wireless networking card to my laptop.
I am now spoiled!
The airport I fly out of (KOSU/Don Scott Field, Columbus OH) provides
free wireless internet access in the terminal and restaurant. It is nice
to relax and eat breakfast, pull up all the pertinent weather, discuss
it with the...

Multi-Engine Before Commercial? by
David B. Cole
My original plan was to finish the instrument rating and then do some
additional aerobatic training and a tailwheel endorsement before
starting the commercial. But for some reason, as I approach the end of
the instrument training, I've had an interest in doing the multi. I
know that I wouldn't be...

(sorta OT) Free Ham Radio Course by
RST Engineering
With the crossbreeding of amateur (ham) radio operators and pilots being
something on the order of 25%, this is only slightly OT.
There is a free online ham radio course being offered and sponsored by RST
Engineering. It is intended to take anybody with an interest in getting a
ham radio license...

Bose X vs. LightSPEED Zulu Review by
[email protected]
For about three months I have owned both the Bose X headset and the
new LightSPEED Zulu headset (actually, three of them). Because of
this, I've been asked elsewhere a number of times for my impressions
of the two, so I finally sat down to write it up.
It is admittedly long, but I hope it helps a...

Skydiving and FAA regs by
Ricky
I just got through watching several skydiving videos trying to
motivate myself to plunk down the money to continue my AFF jumps.
As a pilot/mechanic, I have continually been alarmed at the seeming
disregard for federal regulations in the sport, or are they?
Do jump planes operate under a waiver...

Federal statutes for legally drunk pilots by
anon
Could someone please clarify what the legal FEDERAL minimum a pilot
must blow to be charged with a crime? also, could someone please confirm
that state or police have no jurisdiction over this offense if the accused
does NOT live within the same state or city.
Thanks
