Cracked cylinder: Typical cause? by
Peter R.
What would be the most likely reason a cylinder in a high-time engine
would crack, old-age or poor temperature management on a descent?

Big bad ugly first annual by
ncoastwmn
I'm not sleeping after getting the report grounding my Luscombe 8A
after its first annual as my plane. All the advise about a pre-buy
inspection is true! I thought my plane was too to do that at a long
distance. (My plane came from Georgia, I'm in California). The outboard
five feet of the wings...

Garmin 396 'installation' in the Maule by
Maule Driver
Well, it came yesterday. Great box. Looks like the challenge will be
'mounting' the GXM 30 XM antenna in the Maule.
The thing has a big non-removeable magnet so distance from the compass
is needed. It has an extension cord and mounting screws but needs good
sky exposure... any thoughts are...

Ramp fees for Jets by
Dico
Hello,
I'm on the board of our local flying club and we manage the GA ramp.
I am wondering if people can share with me what their airport (or other
airports they've been to) are charge for overnight fees for jets. We
have a small overnight fee for planes (which i believe is waived if
they fuel...

2006 Annual -- My 8th Owner Assisted -- Update by
Jay Honeck
Things are moving along.
1. My new tail-to-fuselage fairing has arrived, and my A&P has allowed
as how we can use cherry pop rivets (rather than structural), which
will save a bunch of headache. (Although Mary will still have to get
back into the aft fuselage in order to vacuum up the rivets that...

millenium cylinders and 80 octane by
R. Wubben
I am curious about a situation I haven't encountered before.
I just bought a '62 Cessna 172 with 70 hours on an overhauled 0-300
engine. New millenium cylinders were installed.
Can I, or should I, run on 80 octane or 100LL?
The airport that I'm moving to has 80 octane available (a rarity in
this...

lease back financing 5, 10, 20 years by
R.Hubbell
Calling all owners that leaseback a plane to a club or FBO or ??
I have found that financers offer different loans depending on
the who uses the plane. For a club they want 10 years or less
but for private they will finance up to 20 years. Maybe I just need
to keep looking. I don't quite...

Lycoming 0-360 A4M Engine overhaul in Ohio by
Roy Page
We are based in NE Ohio and looking to overhaul another Archer's engine
soon.
We had a bad experience recently with core charges from Lycoming and have
decided to do a field overhaul on this bird.
We would like to fly the bird in so we are looking at companies within a
reasonable distance of NE...

What engine would you like? by
[email protected]
What would be the ideal configuration for an aircraft engine, given
contemporary technology?
1. Start at 0 degrees F with no fuss?
2. Water cooling for dependable cabin heat?
3. Automatic mixture control for altitude & power?
4. Automatic timing control?
5. Jet fuel (availability)?
6. Piston...

Plug and Jump by
NVArt
Problem grows out of a six month old RG battery that won't hold a
charge for two weeks. Bought a plug and Jump from Aircraft Spruce.
Neato idea; I don't have to remove the cowl. I was going to use it to
trickle charge the battery. Trouble is, when I plug in the Plug and
Jump, it powers the panel. I...

Fuel Dip Tube for Hershey-bar Wing Cherokees? by
Bob Chilcoat
I posted this question in the "Fuel dip tube for Piper Warrior?" thread, but
it seems to have gotten lost. Does anyone have dip tube data for the
straight-wing PA-28's, or are the fuel tanks the same as the taper-wing
versions? Thanks.

The "darker side" of flying (Night Landings) with ATC COMS - Video by

Needed to get night current for an IFR flight next week. Since I have
not flown at night for quite some time, figure to give me an
adjustment period as day transitions to night.
Video includes slow flight while waiting for the sun to set, watching
the sunset from 3000 feet and two landings at...

check your tachometer by

old verison. It runs on any Pocket PC, or any Windows laptop. You

Low oil pressure, high oil temp? by
Roy Smith
This spring, my club bought a 1973 200 HP Arrow with about 500 hours on
the engine. Shortly after we bought it, we had to replace several
cylinders and one piston (I'm not sure of the details of why they needed
to be replaced).
The oil pressure always indicates at the low end of the green...

Door Seal for Piper Archer by

I have a 1995 Piper Archer which is starting to get loud inside as the
door seal is getting all worn and cruddy. I looked on the web to buy
new door seals. I did not realize there was such a plethora of
products out there. I am thinking about the Avtek air-squeeze product
