flaps by
Kobra[_4_]
Aviators,
My wife and I flew to Williamsburg (JGG) in our 177RG on Sat. and stayed
until Sunday.
On base at Williamsburg I noticed that the airspeed was really high. I
raised the nose and pulled some power. I had 20 degrees of flaps in and
that is what I usually land with. On final the...

Lopresti & Powerflow for Cheetah -- good as they say? by
Duane MacInnis
Hello all,
I may soon be the happy owner of a 78 Cheetah.
I would be tempted to immediately install the LoPresti cowl & rudder cap,
and the Powerflow exhaust.
When the engine croaks I will go for the 160 STC, but in the meantime the
cowl and exhaust combination may extend the cylinder life on...

Fuel Prices and their Effect on Your Flying by
Jon Kraus
I did some checking around my area today (thanks www.100ll.com) about
what the fuel prices are, and was surprised to learn that my home base
(KTYQ) is charging $4.47 (the highest in the area), and that includes
our based-on-the-field discount. That is up around $1.00 from a little
over a year ago...

Radio Replacement by
Jonathan Goodish
I have (2) KX170B radios which I'm very happy with, except that one of
them has been diagnosed with a bad MHz crystal on the comm side. The new
crystals are apparently no longer available from Bendix/King. The
avionics shop apparently scavenged a replacement from a used radio they
had in the...

Avgas price and the light plane ownership by
M
Anyone worries about what the rising avgas price to the light plane
ownership in the U.S? I have absolutely no doubt that the average
avgas price will surpass $5/gallon in about 5 years. We'll probably
see a significant drop of GA flying, along with a big drop of the value
of used airplanes. ...

Cherokee alternator bracket replacement by
[email protected]
Hey all... My Cherokee is almost done with the annual, but in the 75 hours
since it was last inspected, the alternator bracket has cracked. It's complicated by
the fact that the plane was originally a PA28-140, but now has a Lycoming O-360-A3A.
So, the parts book doesn't necessary literally apply....

Still flying with the 195 on my yolk and that was $ well spent years
ago but would like to upgrade. Anyone hear anything about what's coming
down the pike next? Seems about 2 year intervals for these portables.
Thanks for any info.

Rogue's Gallery Update -- Talk about diversity! by
Jay Honeck
Wow. When we started the Rogue's Gallery -- a webpage where aviation
newsgroup aficionados can post pictures of our aircraft, in an effort to get
to know one another better -- I had no idea this thing would eventually grow
to encompass 32 different makes of aircraft!
More amazingly, within those...

It looks like I will have a mission to pick up a PA32-300 on Thurs. Can
anyone point me to an online copy of the flight maual, or perhaps some of
the pertinent information? I've got a couple of hours in a PA32-260 some
years ago, and will have a copy of the manual available when I pick up...

Assuming proper maintanence and a good airframe log/book inspection,
are there any concerns about high time airframes, like insurability,
etc? My partners and I are looking at a warrior with over 11,000

Rent vs. Own by
Frank[_11_]
Since this is an aircraft owners newsgroup, that means it's the perfect place to ask about the costs associated with owning an airplane vs. renting.
Since I haven't started my private pilot lessons, I'm not familiar with all of the expenses associated with owning an aircraft. I have listed below...

What would you buy with a 50k budget? by
Kirk Ellis[_2_]
A fellow pilot/friend and I have been knocking around the idea of
doing a 2-way partnership on an aircraft next summer. I have had my
ticket since 1998 although I have only 150 some odd hours total. My
friend has about half that. Relatively speaking we still consider
ourselves newbie "students" but...

burning out several starters I have tried tune-ups prior to winter and
installing the Slick Shower of Sparks ignition system. All have helped

VOTE ...HTML or Plain Text??? by
Montblack
I was surprised by the acceptance of an HTML post in another thread. I, for
one, could read the HTML fine. Others said the same thing.
Has the time come for HTML in the newsgroup(s)?
My (change is bad - we fear change) vote is no HTML ... for now.
I'm being fuddy-duddy with my reason: I get...
