A310 mishap, 120 dead :( by
[email protected]
It appears that there was a flight deck fire immediately upon
touchdown, preventing the pilots from braking. The airplane landed and
seemingly shot straight along the runway and beyond, until it could go
no further.
An unfortunate if freakish accident.

repost key west by
Jim Burns
My post ended up attached to a previous Key West thread, this is a repost.
Just returned from 5 days in Key West, FL.
For those who haven't flown there, I would highly recommend the experience.
A mix of commercial flights, both heavy and light GA, and biplane sight
seeing tours make KEYW a busy...

On the Cover of the...Flight Journal! by
Jay Honeck
Okay, so it's not the "Rolling Stone" -- and we can't really see his
face behind the gun sight -- but this group's own Vlado Lenoch is on
the cover of this month's "Flight Journal" magazine, flying a
beautiful Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.
Congrats, Vlado, both on flying the Jug, and the cover! What...

Bonny Doon ? by
Road Dog
Does anyone know anything about Bonny Doon private airport (C77) ?
I'd like to land there to pick up a friend, and am happy
to sign any waiver but haven't been able to reach anyone
by phone to see if that's ok. Has anyone done this ?
Do you just land and go to the office ?
Thanks

To go around or not go around? - Video by
Kai Rode
It would be interesting to hear what others would have done on the
first landing.
Go around. It's almost always the safer decision. But maybe I'm influenced
by a similar situation I experienced the day before yesterday...crosswind
landing on RWY31 with winds 24013G23KT. I used full flaps...

Bertie, aka [email protected] by
a[_3_]
Just noticed something, guys. Bertie used to use that @aa.aa as the
return email address. If you look at information on google groups
you'll find that address has been banned for "violating terms of
agreement" earlier this month so it would appear Bertie has changed
email/signon...

Squadron History Presentation by

I presented the results of my research on the USAF Troop Carrier squadon

members at their 52nd reunion this afternoon.
For any of you who have considered learning what your fathers did and
the men they served with, this is...

On the Ground by
[email protected]
After I land at an unfamiliar airport, I feel like a homeless person.
This summer I planned a long cross-country from Missouri to California
and back, and I wondered if I could fly into small airports and be
assured of finding food and lodging. What I learned may be of interest
to others. Here is...

leaning a lycoming engine by
airpix
A few of you were asking about leaning a Lycoming engine awhile back.
Here's the official word from Lycoming:
In order to cope with high elevation airport takeoffs with normally
aspirated engines, whenever the density altitude is 5,000 feet or
higher, the pilot must compensate on the ground before...

Happy Thanksgiving, all! by
Jay Honeck
As I sit here preparing for a flight to spend Thanksgiving with family and
friends, I'm reminded of how lucky all of us here are.
Remember to give thanks today for what we've got -- as pilots, we represent
less than 0.2% of the US population (and far less than that, on a global
scale). The...

Any suggestions: Winnipeg/Edmonton to Seattle? by
Journeyman
I'm planning to on making a trip from Long Island Sound to Puget Sound
(and back) later this year. We're expecting to do a side trip enroute to
Winnipeg and/or Edmonton.
Any suggestions on routing across the mountains to Spokane? From there, I
can just take the I-90 across Snoqualmie...

Memphis Belle Pilot Update by
Jay Honeck
This just in regarding Col. Bob Morgan, pilot of the Memphis Belle in World
War II:
As of this morning Bob's pulmonologist has given him very little chance of
survival. This is a terrible turn of events, as he was doing better just
yesterday. Needless to say, his family is devastated.
