A Jeppesen rant by
Peter R.
Apparently when you are the only provider of GPS data for the Garmin
GNS430, as Jeppesen is in the US, you can afford to have **** poor
after-business hours customer service.
Jeppesen does not offer telephone sales or customer support on weekends.
OK, fair enough since Jeppesen does have a web...

Flight Training at 15? by
Jay Honeck
My son is 15. He'll be turning 16 in August, and starting his Junior year
of high school.
He's been flying since he can remember, and has many hours in the right
seat. (He's got over 1500 hours as a passenger with Mary and me.) His first
dozen or so hours behind the yoke were "IFR" -- because he...

Electric flight is coming by
Mark
Electric planes will fly circles around gasoline planes in
the near future.
"In the drive to devise more efficient and durable batteries, one
promising option uses carbon nanotubes, which not only can store far
more electricity by weight than lithium ion batteries but also retain
their charge for...

Crash at MYF today.... by
[email protected]
I was about to shoot the approach into MYF when they closed the field this morning.
When I did get to land there was a very broken C-182 on the side of Runway 23.
Any word on what happened?

CNN uses "special software" for KLEX simulation: Microsoft Flight Simulator by
Mxsmanic
See
http://tinyurl.com/j3hy3
This "special software" bears an uncanny resemblance to the Microsoft
Flight Simulator that I played with last night. In fact, I tried the
very same thing on my PC last night that CNN is now using in its
highly scientific demonstration today. I didn't mention my...

"Interesting" wind yesterday by
Jay Honeck
As many may know, we set records here in Iowa yesterday, hitting 73 degrees
in Iowa City. It felt great!
The winds in the afternoon started to kick up pretty good, as a cold front
approached from the northwest. On our way back from brunch in Lone Rock, WI
(where we ran into this group's own Jim...

Flying again after 23 years earthbound. by
[email protected]
My grandson just turned 15 and has a great interest in aviation, so I
decided to get legal and show him how much fun we could have in a
Piper Cherokee. After not flying for the past 23 years I got my
medical, found a local club with a good instructor and hope to start
flying on my own in the next...

Hunting Season by
EDR
I see from reading the FAA accident site, that aircraft hunting season
has begun. Just this week...
C210 got a deer
C560 got a deer
B1900 got three geese
C650 got two geese
One would think that sitting on the ground with a gun would be cheaper,
but I guess there is more sport in using an airplane.

WOW - Shots fired at skydiving plane in NY... by
Buff5200
I believe the "minigun" is the chopper door mounted version of the
electric gattling guns.
Arnold was hand holding one in "Predator" and "Terminator II".
The weapon that's as long as your aircraft, throws 6,000/min of death
is the Vulcan Cannon of A-10 Warthog fame.
A mini gun would be the...

Plan our camping trip! by
Jay Honeck
Okay, so this year my son wants to do a flying father/son trip. (Every
summer I take each kid, just the two of us, somewhere. It's usually a
motorcycle camping trip, but my son tends to alternate between riding
and flying. Two years ago we flew into Gaston's Fly-In Resort down in
Arkansas, and had...

No spin training in the US? by
Mark Morissette
What's eveyrones opinion regarding the lack of spin traning for
students in the US? I see that there was a thread about this from an
instructor viewpoint a while back, but not necessarilly from the
student viewpoint.
Personally, there was only two lessons that I didn't look forward to -

I made a day trip out to the SouthWest Regional Flyin held this weekend
in New Braunsfels KBAZ, Texas and thought I would share a little of
what I found. Of course, once you have attended Oshkosk/Airventure,
nothing will compare or measure up... but overall it was an enjoyable trip.

Question for Pressurised Baron pilots by
DeltaDeltaDelta
I've been trying to find some info on this thing for quite a while now. I've
been to Raytheon's site and found specs for the normal Baron only. If some
of you do own the P version, could you please tell me what engines do they
have? Are they the regular IO-550s or are they turbocharged? And what...

medical question: childhood heart murmur by

Okay, here's an odd situation.
30-something pilot, been flying a few years, have had a couple of class
III medical examinations; no problems.
On a recent visit home, pilot's family remind him that as infant he had
a heart murmur. There were checkups for a few years, but no
restrictions, meds,...

looking for consumer review on, um, range extender bottles by

A friend told me a while back that that a couple of pilots purchased
every type of human relief container, and armed with prior consumption
of a gallon or so of coffee or tea, made a test flight and reported on
the pros/cons of each. I think this could be quite funny but have
never been able to...

OT - Kane Aero Company by

Maybe a little OT for this group, but does anyone know what happened to
the Kane Aero Company? I was brushing up with my E6-B in prep for the
commercial checkride and I have an old Kane Aero MK-6B that I got with
my private pilot kit back in 1977. I got to wondering what happened to
this...
