Stumped by new starter by
Jim Burns
I'm stumped by a problem with a new (rebuilt) Prestolite starter. Bare with
me while I go through the details.
The left engine starter had been causing us problems, the bendix wouldn't
engage every time. We also had a problem with the right bendix but only on
occasion, so we thought we just...

Nose Strut O-Ring Was Bad... by
Jay Honeck
Last week, in -22 temperatures, our nose gear drooped all the way to
the stop. Later, we were able to put some down pressure on the
stabilator (in the hangar) and bring it back up a couple of inches,
but made plans to have our A&P look at it.
Yesterday, since he wasn't coming in the shop till...

396 question by
dlevy
I use mapsource with my 396. Occasionally an address is incorrect. That
got me wondering what is the process by which Garmin (or whoever) builds the
database? Can I submit an error to get the database fixed?

Twin tachs by
Jim Burns
One of the tachs in our Aztec has been acting kind of flakey, usually
reading too high when above 2100 rpms, (I've checked it several times with
an optical tach) so I've been contemplating our options of replacing both
tachs with a single dual needle tach. This would open up some panel...

Are all aircraft brokers like this? by
Stan Prevost
I recently sold our airplane using a broker to represent us as sellers.
Things seemed to be OK, a few rough spots, and I would like to have gotten a
little better offer, but we negotiated with a buyer through the broker and
agreed to a sale. Paperwork for the sale then proceeded OK and I flew...

Single-Engine Partnership vs. Used vs. Flying Clubs by
[email protected]
Salutations All,
I've been reading on aircraft ownership lately, and had a few
questions.
In general, how do aircraft partnerships work? Do partnerships exist
for singles? Are they a good idea vs. purchasing a used aircraft
outright? What about flying clubs - do they typically offer...

Renting in Bahamas? by
Marty Ross
Anyone know of, or have experience with, renting a plane and instructor from
any of the northwest islands in the Bahamas?
I'm planning on being there in July and would like to do some sightseeing &
flying (I'm PPL/IA). Would rather do typical "FBO-style"
instruction/checkout, but if there are...

Why No N-Number in FAA Database? by
Carl Orton
Hi all;
Checking into my first plane purchase, and have a question for you that I'm
not sure of.
I found a plane. I have not seen the registration cert (haven't looked for
it).
The N-number is *not* in the FAA aircraft registry database.

Garmin 430 Reception by
Jon Kraus
Our "new" '79 M20J came with a 2 year old Garmin 430 GPS and Garmin 340
audio panel. The backup radio is an ancient King 170B. I must say that
the reception on the Garmin sucks compared to the 170B. Am I doing
something wrong or is this just something I have to live with? To me for
10 grand the...

Caution to those pondering a zero-choke re-man by this company.
My O-470J lasted 200 hours before four cylinders showed mid-fifties
compression with Blackstone labs reporting symptoms of excessive ring
wear.
Even after admitting, view phone, that the test-stand results were
abnormal, Ney himself...

I read a few posts referring to the FAA certificated life limit of the

SR22 (approved 11/30/00) - airframe life limit 4,350 hours

Simple weight/balance question by

Hi!
I am part owner of an Arrow 180 hp.
We haven't had a weight and balance done in a while, and I was wondering one
thing.
It seems on the old numbers that me and my wife cannot ride in the front
seat together when fully fueled....
I weigh in at around 100 kg (approx 220 lbs) and wife is around...
