Are op-specs public? by
Roy Smith
Are airline op-specs public documents? If I wanted to see, for example,
the op-specs that United Airlines operates under, could I get a copy from
the FAA?

A friend sent this website url; great pictures of Alaskan bush
flying. However the pix are all on a very long single page so you'll
need broadband and patience.

Shuttle emergency abort sites preparations? by
Roy Smith
According to wikipedia, "In the event of an emergency deorbit that would
bring the Orbiter down in an area not within range of a designated
emergency landing site, the Orbiter is theoretically capable of landing on
any paved runway that is at least 10,000 feet long, which includes the
majority...

Seats of commercial airlines by
[email protected]
Hi Guys
I never understand why aircraft are equipted with lifejackets (which
cost money, makes the aircraft heavier etc) in case of a successful
crash landing and still they don't install the seats in reverse in case
of that same crash landing.
If it is much safer to face with your back in the...

Having posted to this group before, I though I would just provide
the follow up.
I completed a transformer design - thanks for people who
posted in the group with information.
Instead of paying $75 - $150 for an adapter, I constructed
what is the equivalent of 500 ohm source impedance to
4 ohm...

Jet Blue On CNN by
John A. Weeks III
Anyone else watch the Jet Blue Airbus on CNN
do the emergency landing at LAX with the nose
gear pointed crossways? It is worth checking
out the highlights on CNN to watch it. That
had to be one of the best and smoothest landings
I have ever seen. The pilot really greased it
in, and held the nose...

Is there a site I can check speed/altitude of her plane? Or even a

A lot of sites are for US only... and other sites don't accept Kenya
Airways...

six engines - what the heck was that? by
Norm Soley
I was overflown today by an aircraft that I can't figure out what it was.
I didn't get at look until I was due aft of it but I was suprised to see three
engine nacelles on each wing. Prop aircraft, possibly in military low-vis colours.
This was about 100km west of Ottawa, Canada so I'm assuming it...

Who maintains ground beacons? by
Cory Scott
Does anyone know who is responsible for maintaining those red flashing
beacons on towers and hilltops? Government agency? County? State?
Federal?
This may sound weird, but I want that job. The whole outdoor aspect of it
interests me. The rural mountain roads, climbing high towers, the views! ...

Displacement Gyro by
Otmar Bender
Where can I find information about Displacement Gyros?
I do have several avionics books, but in non of the books is the term
Displacement Gyro. I know that it must be something like a DG or VG , and
it measures a Displacement. What is it used for?

Looking for some avionics manuals... by
Al Marzo
Peter;
It looks like all of those manuals should be available from the
manufacturers. Unfortunately since they are for airplanes, the prices
may reflect such. I've seen some manuals on CD ROM being sold on
Ebay, but haven't looked into the content. Pirated, no doubt, but
they may help. You can...
