Chopper crash by
[email protected]
A Russian helicopter crew turned into a real emergency when the chopper
crashed. The accident happened today at an island between Russia and
Japan when an amphibious helicopter landed in the water and tried to
take off again. The chopper tipped over and its rotors hit the water,
breaking it into...

"Airwolf" by
Sven Balzer
Hello NG,
I'm looking for the type of helicopter, that was the original for the
"Airwolf" of the movie. IMHO it was a "Bell", but how it's exact name of
this model?
How can I find some pictures, especially a blueprint?
Greetings from Germany
Sven

16 Bell 206's by
Sundance
I have 16 Bell 206's for sale. If you are a former Viet Nam helicopter
pilot, this may be your chance to own your own bird. I was in BUF's
out of Kadena in 1968. Website is boblewis.net/helicopters.
Take a look! -Bob-

New helicopter designs by
Stuart Fields
There are several firms offering either plans for, or kits, for homebuilt
helicopters that have little if any supporting actual flite test data. Yet
apparently there are willing buyers out there willing to part with their
money for these subjects of marketing rhetoric. Even EAA gave some...

boB in one of your earlier posts you asked if there was someplace to go and
see all the small helicopters. There are two major gatherings for the
experimental helicopters. Homer Bell's in Hillsboror Ohio in July and John
Spurling;s in Cleveland Ok. in October. Both are a must for...

Curiosity of the first order by
Stuart Fields
I'm quite curious about this groups response to an announcement of a new
magazine about experimental helicopters. There has been essentially no
response. I'm sure surprised. Is there a basis for this group that I'm
unaware of that would create a total lack of curiosity or comment? I'm at
a...

balancing act by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
Here's one for the pros: I was balancing my tail rotor and had it down to
0.27 ips and still had just a touch too much weight where I had added it.
So still needing to safety wire a bolt that is located in the center of the
tail rotor output shaft, I chose to safety it to a hole 180 degrees from...

Balancing act revisited. by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
In a previous post I had problems balancing my tail rotor on my Baby Belle
helicopter and received a lot of feedback on possible causes. I've since
got the bugger balanced and discovered a few things about both mechanical
vibrations and some characteristics of my ship. In the process I found...

aluminum control tube failed causing helicopter crash. The helo had an
anodized aluminum control tube that failed in fatigue with less than 400hrs.
The loading was low producing stresses in the area of 460psi. Discussions
with anodizing folks say "Never anodize flight critical components" ...

Helicycle down by

Erie Col. Newspaper item about a Helicycle crashed during landing,
collapsed one side of the gear and rolled. A rolled helicopter has a

The ride experienced by the pilot shortly after the blade hits the ground

Jay Carter's jump take off gyro by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
At Oshkosh this year I watched Rusty Nance (Current Pres PRA) flying the
little Carter gyrocopter perform a jump takeoff that went from ground to
around 100' in the air and then just flew away. Jay Carter showed me a
video where the ship jumped straight into the air and came straight back
down...

Helicopter fly-in by

The next big helicopter meet that I know of occurs near Cleveland Ok. The
last week-end of September. The meet put on by John Spurling of Pro-Drive
is one of the good ones. The flying is good and there is usually a poker
run and prizes as well as a band and dancing. There are usually some 30...
